Job Description

The Accounts Receivable Accountant is a specialized position in the Finance Department and reports directly to the Deputy Director of Finance. In the Deputy Director’s absence, this position reports to the Director. This position requires the ability to work independently in the absence of specific instructions or supervision. Provides financial, administrative, and clerical support by ensuring the timely processing of various accounts receivable billing, properly records transactions by posting receipts, and resolves discrepancies according to established municipal policies and procedures in an efficient, timely, and accurate manner. The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for the monthly utility billing.
• Maintains various utility related spreadsheets on usage.
• Calculates the final utility bills and handles the deed processing.
• Responsible for the monthly accounts receivable billing.
• Updates and maintain accounts receivable vendor database.
• Reviews the accounts receivable aging report on a monthly basis and responsible for on-going collections.
• Responsible for the user benefit billing.
• Responsible for the business personal property billing.
• Assists in the annual, supplemental, and half-year real estate tax billings.
• Responsible for the annual tax sale process which includes coordination with the County.
• Performs the daily bank deposit run.
• Responsible for the monthly parking garage change machine audit.
• Back-up to the front counter: assists in answering the phone, assists customers at the counter, and balances the cash drawer, when necessary.
• Performs necessary scanning, filing, typing, and copying.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Requires an associates degree in accounting or finance.
• At least three years of work experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or a related occupation is required.
• A valid drivers license and good driving record is required.
• Must demonstrate a basic knowledge of accounts receivable, electronic document management, and filing.
• Ability to operate a 10-key electric adding machine and type 35 words per minute.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the public, be diplomatic, courteous and polite, and get along with co-workers.
• Must be able to multi-task with performing the duties of the job.
• Ability to use computerized financial software, word processing, e-mail, and spreadsheet programs in a Windows environment.
• Excellent communication which includes active listening skills.
• Excellent problem solving skills which includes being a critical thinker.
• High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
