Overview:
The Town of Bar Harbor is seeking skilled individuals for the positions of Maintenance Technician I and II within the Water work area of the Public Works Department. These positions are vital for the operation and maintenance of the water system and related equipment, ensuring the delivery of quality water to our community while adhering to all regulatory standards.
Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain water system infrastructure under the supervision of the Distribution System Manager and/or Water Superintendent.
- Assist in installation, operation, repair, and maintenance of water distribution system infrastructure.
- Conduct routine inspections, flushing hydrants, and operating valves as necessary.
- Read, program, test, repair, and install electronic water meters.
- Respond to customer inquiries, complaints, and work requests, striving for prompt resolution.
- Perform building and grounds maintenance, including snow plowing and removal around hydrants.
- Engage in GIS mapping of water distribution system infrastructure.
- Adhere to safety procedures and regulations, attending safety meetings and training sessions regularly.
- Participate in training events to maintain licenses and stay updated on regulations.
- Perform on-call responsibilities for Water Division emergencies as required.
- Execute special projects and related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school graduate; additional education preferred.
- Valid State of Maine Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Class I Water Distribution License (Maintenance Technician I) or possess Class II Water Distribution License (Maintenance Technician II).
- Ability to obtain and maintain Class I Water Treatment License (Maintenance Technician I) or possess Class III Water Treatment License (Maintenance Technician II).
- 5-7 years of experience in water treatment, distribution, or similar work preferred.
- Proficiency in operating various equipment and tools related to water systems.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and work independently.
- Familiarity with OSHA safety regulations and best practices.
