Town of Addison is Hiring a Senior Code Enforcement Officer Near Addison, TX

Under general supervision, the Senior Code Enforcement Officer assists with daily case activities of the Code Enforcement Division. Performs code enforcement inspections and assists in training Officers with inspections and research for code compliance. Review sign plans and conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with town and state codes. Coordinates and conducts inspections to identify and correct code violations to improve the quality of life in neighborhoods and commercial districts. Provides information to the public regarding codes, ordinances, and compliance. Serve as a representative of the organization at community events, meetings, and forums to promote awareness of programs, initiatives, and services.
  • Provides training and guidance to the code compliance staff engaged in the investigation of complaints and on matters pertaining to case management, protocols, procedures, and on-field investigations and inspections. 
  • Conducts inspections and re-inspections of single-family rental properties, apartments, and short-term rentals, which includes conducting site visits; inspecting properties; inputting results of inspections into an applicable database; generating notice letters to owners regarding violations; verifying completion and abatement of violations; and/or, performing other related activities.
  • Performs pro-active and complaint-generated inspections of various residential neighborhoods and commercial locations, enforcing and ensuring compliance with applicable City zoning codes, sign codes, nuisance abatement, housing codes, dangerous building abatement, and/or other applicable issues. Secures vacant structures and provides temporary repair work on downed fences.
  • Review Sign Plans: Analyze proposed sign plans submitted for approval to ensure compliance with town and state codes, zoning ordinances, and other relevant regulations.
  • Conduct Site Inspections: Perform on-site inspections of sign installations to verify compliance with approved plans and regulatory requirements. This includes assessing factors such as size, placement, materials, lighting, and safety features.
  • Performs a variety of administrative activities in support of departmental operations, which may include: reviewing and responding to a variety of correspondence; responding to requests for information from citizens, internal departments, and external agencies; documenting case responses in applicable databases; assisting in the review of notices; interpreting ordinances; preparing case file information for presentation to applicable Boards or Commissions; and, performing other related activities. 
  • Follows up on cases to ensure progress; responds to calls and emails from citizens, businesses, and contractors. 
  • Prepares various reports as required. 
  • Participates in/on a variety of meetings, committees, task forces, and/or other related groups to receive and obtain information involving code compliance. 
  • Presents evidence and testimony in Municipal Court related to motion dockets or trials, including the preparation of citations and submitting fine recommendations.
  • Assist with developing and implementing outreach strategies to engage target audiences, promote programs or initiatives, and build relationships with the community.
  • May be asked to perform additional job duties that are directly, indirectly, or completely unrelated to normal job functions in the course of presenting certain Town special events.
  • Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND
  • Three (3) years of code enforcement experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 
  • Must be certified as a Code Enforcement Officer.
Conditions of Employment:
  • Safe driving record and valid Texas Driver’s License. 
  • Clear Criminal Background check and pre-employment drug screen.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances. 
  • Knowledge of conflict negotiation methods. 
  • Knowledge of records maintenance practices and procedures. 
  • Ability to enforce city codes and ordinances with firmness, tact, and impartiality, and to deal courteously with the public. 
  • Ability to input, access, and retrieve data from a computer and applicable software programs. 
  • Skill in reading, interpreting, and explaining applicable laws, codes, ordinances, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill in providing a high level of customer service.
  • Skill in prioritizing and scheduling activities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain relations with fellow employees, Town officials, residents, property owners/managers, and outside contractors.
PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office environment and throughout the Town of Addison. Operation of a vehicle will be required. May be exposed to inclement weather conditions, irate citizens, and potentially unsafe or unsanitary buildings.
This is a nonexempt position. Routine schedule is 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday. Schedule may be modified if department needs arise. May be required to work overtime if needed.
