Town of Addison is Hiring a Seasonal Lifeguard Near Addison, TX

The Addison Athletic Club is seeking to hire fourteen (14) Seasonal Lifeguards for the outdoor pool. The pool is open seasonally from May 25, 2024 to September 2, 2024. 
Seasonal Lifeguard Orientation will start on May 20, 2024.
Bonus Opportunities:
  • Seasonal pool employees will receive a $300 signing payment if the employee starts on or before May 20, 2024 and works Memorial Day Weekend. Will receive an additional $50 bonus for working Memorial Day.
  • Employees that start by May 29, 2024 will receive a $250 signing payment. Employees that start by June 17, 2024 will receive a $150 signing payment.
  • Employees will also receive a $250 retention payment upon completion of the season if the employee has worked through the end of the season on September 2, 2024.
  • Employees will be eligible to receive a referral bonus of $50 if hired and refers a candidate who gets hired.
Under direct supervision of the Head Lifeguard and Pool Supervisor to safeguard and regulate the conduct of all patrons of the Addison Athletic Club outdoor swimming pool facilities. Responsible for all areas of safety and welfare of users, staff, equipment, and facilities; handles emergencies if they develop. Position requires regular contact with the public in both structured and unstructured situations that will require considerable tact and judgment.
Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Supervises large groups in the water, including children, both visually and audible to ensure health and safety standards.
  • Ensures patron safety by enforcing pool rules and regulations; performs water rescues and administers basic first aid as needed.
  • Carries out emergency operating procedures and notifies proper authorities.
  • Directs and demonstrates proper and safe use of facility equipment; insures policy and proper procedures are followed at all times. 
  • Performs minor maintenance such as cleaning the pool and custodial tasks; reports larger maintenance problems; opens and/or closes facilities. 
  • Meets and greet the public; answers telephone; inputs and retrieves computer data. 
  • Performs cashier duties as needed.
  • Offers support for recreational, civic, and cultural activities in which the Town participates; assists in various administrative tasks.
  • Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines 
Completion of 10th grade. Minimum age 16. Prefer two seasons of lifeguarding experience. Prefer experience in a public setting. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relations with fellow employees, Town officials, and the general public. Safe driving record. Clear criminal background check and clear pre-employment drug screen.
Knowledge of: 
  • Basic computer and clerical skills. 
Skill in:
  • Skill in enforcing pool rules and regulations. 
  • Skill in operating pool handicap lift.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid. American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification. American Red Cross AED Essentials.
ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS
Hours will vary depending upon staffing level and demand for services. Schedule may be modified if department needs arise. Works rotating shifts, sometimes on short notice.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Lifts equipment, furniture, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds and sets up in area of activity. Position requires walking, standing, stooping, bending, twisting upper body, reaching, pulling, climbing, and lifting. Work is usually performed outdoors and employee will be subject to extremes of weather and temperatures, as well as high noise levels. Must be able to perform emergency rescue drills as required as a condition of continued employment.
