Town of Addison is Hiring a Seasonal Camp Counselor Near Addison, TX

The Addison Athletic Club is seeking to hire five (5) Seasonal Camp Counselors for the summer camp season. The summer camp will begin on May 28, 2024 and end on August 9, 2024.

Seasonal camp employees will receive a $300 signing payment if the employee starts on or before May 28, 2024. Additionally, a $250 retention payment will be issued to employees who work through the end of camp on August 9, 2024.

Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator. Responsible for working directly with children (Ages 6 -12) and plays an integral role in the development of building strong character values in the youth campers at the Addison Athletic Club (AAC) Summer Camp. The position is representative of the philosophy, mission and goals of the AAC and its Summer Camp Program. Staff must strive to work cooperatively with the Recreation Coordinator and fellow employees to achieve the goals and objectives of the AAC. While doing so, the Camp Counselor will serve as an appropriate role model for the children and other staff members.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Assist in all functions related to the running of the Addison Summer Camp.
Responsible for providing diverse program experiences for the campers.
Responsive to campers' needs and wherever possible involve group in decision making.
Responsible for insuring the safety and wellbeing of all campers throughout the summer.
Keeps the area clean and safe for all campers.
Responsible for the proper use, care and storage of all camp equipment:
Maintains a neat appearance; wearing an appropriate staff shirt/uniform during daily operations.
Responsible for reporting and assisting the Recreation Coordinator in all accidents occurring during camp.
Attend all staff trainings, in-services and meetings.
Responsible for following all policy and guidelines.
Follows scheduled activities.
Follows field trip policies.
Responsible for maintaining discipline during Summer Camp.
Reviews and understands all emergency drills and be prepared to implement them.
Discuss with parents any experience each child in the group has at camp.
Assists in taking pictures of activities throughout the week.
Closely supervise and lead campers in scheduled recreational activities during camp.
Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines

Must be at least 18 years of age. Any combination of education, training and work experience equivalent to completion of high school. Experience in summer camp, day care, church camp, public recreation, and/or outdoor activities is required. Associate's degree, Bachelor's degree, or equivalent majoring in Education, Physical Education, or Recreation is preferred. Safe driving record. Clear criminal background check and clear pre-employment drug screen.

Knowledge of:

Sports activities (softball, basketball, volleyball, soccer, tennis), arts and crafts, environmental sciences, cultural arts, etc.
Decision making in emergency situations.
Basic computer and clerical skills.

Skill in:

Organizing, supervising, and disciplining children, and creating a positive camp environment.
Working effectively with children 6-12 years of age, teenage, and adult volunteers.
Recognizing potential hazards.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Valid Texas Driver's License. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is preferred.

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS

This is a seasonal position for the summer months, averaging 20-40 hours per week. Hours will vary depending upon staffing level and demand for services. Schedule may be modified if department needs arise.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Duties involve some exertion which can be strenuous. Noise level in Club may be loud because of racquetball, exercise equipment, and various pumps and appliances. Lifts recreation equipment, furniture, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds and sets up in activity area. Assignments will involve both indoor activities in an air-conditioned building and outdoor games subject to extremes of weather and temperature. Work in an outdoor setting exposed to heat, dust, wind, insects, noxious plants, and snakes. Participate in various sports and recreational activities; ability to lift loaded ice chests and items up to 50 lbs., stoop, walk, bend, run, throw, climb, and swim.
