Torrance Casting is Hiring an ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST Near La Crosse, WI

The Accounting Specialist scrutinizes financial data, prepares reports, and aids in providing solutions to accounting issues as they arise. 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Implement the company’s payroll and benefits functions and communicate and problem-solve issues with accounting team members and the human resources department.
    • Oversee and complete the payroll process by established deadlines for both union and non-union personnel including but not limited to:
      • Processing new employees, terminations, transfers, and promotions.
      • Filing tax forms.
      • Verifying time and attendance data.
      • Processing employee deductions and garnishments.
      • Issuing of earnings and deductions statements.
      • Investigating and correcting payroll discrepancies and errors.
    • Address employee's pay-related concerns and provide accurate payroll information including requests for pay-related documents, statements, and verifications.
    • Ensure the proper handling and distribution of W-2s and payroll tax payments.
    • Prepare payroll reports of earnings, hours worked, taxes, insurance, leave including necessary information for the Operations Report.
    • Participate in the oversight of employee benefits plan premium payments, claims, and reconciliations.
    • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and guidelines including the maintenance of a comprehensive payroll records system.
  • Assist with the processing of financial information, financial statements, and other necessary accounting affairs.
    • Process the company’s payroll transactions.
      • Reconcile GL accounts to the general ledger.
    • Assist Accounting Manager in the preparation and analysis of financial statements.
    • Work with the Accounting Manager to maintain control over the company’s cash position by monitoring and tracking cash balances in the check register.
    • Monitor procedures and forms for the recordation of fixed assets including but not limited to:
      • Recording fixed asset acquisitions and dispositions.
      • Compiling project costs into fixed asset accounts and closing out accounts once the related projects have been completed.
      • Reconciling the balance in the fixed asset subsidiary ledger to the summary-level account in the general ledger.
      • Reviewing and updating the detailed schedule of fixed assets and accumulated depreciation.
      • And preparing audit schedules relating to fixed assets and assisting auditors in their inquiries.
    • Assist in accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Drive and ensure department and company-wide effectiveness through the provision of key information on various corporate initiatives.
    • In concert with Accounting Manager, improve and refine accounting policies and procedures.
    • Suggest and aid in the implementation of operational best practices throughout the company.
    • Participate in decisions with members of the executive management team through the provision of key details.
    • Serve as backup to Accounting Assistant in the duties and responsibilities of Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Invoicing.
  • Complete special projects or other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Education: Two-year or four-year degree in Accounting or related field.
Experience: One year experience with payroll; experience in a manufacturing environment a plus
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office components including Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Knowledge of basic math and their applications
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures for compensation and benefits

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work regularly be required to sit at a desk, use a computer, talk, and hear using a telephone, utilize printer, copier, and other office equipment. Filing is necessary and would require the ability to lift files, open cabinets, bend, squat, stand on step stool, as necessary.
They are frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle, or feel; reach with hands bend or move and lift to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
TYPICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee typically works in an office environment, however, as needed could find themselves in the plant to observe or evaluate production. The noise level in the work environment varies from quiet in office areas to very loud in the manufacturing environment. Employee may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the workday.
TYPICAL PROTECTIVE CLOTHING/EQUIPMENT
Safety glasses and hearing protection are provided and necessary for any work conducted in the plant.
