Tool-Gauge and Machine Works, Inc. is Hiring a Buyer I Near Tacoma, WA

Buyer I holds a significant role within our organization. They are responsible for developing a knowledge base of the products we sell and purchase, with the long-term goal of supporting inventory objectives that mitigate disruptions to the production schedule. The Buyer will generate, review, and submit orders based on daily material requirements, or at the request of management. The Buyer is also responsible for managing and monitoring purchase orders for on-time delivery, conformity, and completeness, and will work with the appropriate internal and external departments to resolve discrepancies.

Essential Requirements:

  • Operate within ERP software to determine daily material requirements, obtaining vendor quotes when necessary, and issuing purchase orders.
  • Negotiate prices and lead-times with suppliers.
  • Ability to interpret demand from discrete sales orders, contracts, and/or forecasts.
  • Manage/monitor open purchase orders, alerting management of issues or concerns.
  • Procure in support of inventory and production goals, while ensuring best available prices and lead-times are achieved.
  • Familiarity with basic accounting principles and functions, including general ledger accounts, payment terms, accounts payable/receivable, etc.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with external suppliers, while also demonstrating a strong ability to work cross-functionally with other departments internally.
  • Source, on-board, and manage vendors.
  • Identify supply chain bottlenecks, and develop critical path to alleviate constraints.
  • Operate with urgency to support time sensitive requirements and tasks.
  • Remain highly organized and detail oriented within a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively to achieve and support organizational objectives.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Preferred, but not required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, with focus in supply chain, procurement, finance, or similar field.
  • 2 years of previous purchasing experience in a manufacturing industry.
  • Knowledge of the aerospace industry and familiarity with material specifications.
  • Prior experience with IQMS software.
