Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority is Hiring a Mobility Specialist Near Toledo, OH

The Mobility Specialist, oversees the functional assessment process for individuals applying for complimentary paratransit services. This role involves evaluating eligibility, maintaining accurate records, conducting assessments, and providing instruction and consultation regarding transportation services.

One Team! One TARTA! The role of the Mobility Specialist, will focus on supporting paratransit operations within a new TARTA. In 2020, TARTA embarked on a transformational journey with the development of TARTA Next, a ten-year plan to increase community value through public transit services that make a positive impact. This transformation is powered by a dedicated team of professionals in each department from the leadership team to every front-line (and behind the scenes) team member.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct evaluations and assessments to determine eligibility for paratransit services.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of clients and transportation services provided.
  • Coordinate in-person, phone, and file assessments in collaboration with the Department Assistant.
  • Document and maintain customer files, including records of contacts, assessments, and outcomes.
  • Liaise with medical staff for application follow-up and maintain professional relationships.
  • Provide instruction and consultation on the use of transportation services and pedestrian safety.
  • Act as a representative during personalized transportation requests and community presentations.
  • Offer information on public transit travel issues to parents and group homes.
  • Resolve conflicts related to No Show penalties and maintain knowledge of transit systems.
  • Conduct meetings with current riders and collaborate with staff to improve the program.
  • Participate in special transportation committee meetings and perform other related duties.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of travel training practices and community transit systems.
  • Understanding of safety procedures in various travel situations.
  • Supervisory, training, evaluation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and perform basic mathematical computations.
  • Familiarity with the Americans with Disabilities Act and confidentiality policies.

Minimum Qualifications

A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

  • Valid driver’s license.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in social services, education, rehabilitation, or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • One year of experience in a similar public service role

The job entails exposure to medical and behavioral risks that are inherent in transporting passengers. Will require using the TARTA Fixed Route system and walking varying distances with applicants.

The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to operate a telephone or other telecommunications device. Extensive use of a computer, mouse and keyboard and viewing of the computer screen is required. Specific vision abilities required of this job include vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
