As a Staff Accountant at Tokio Marine HCC – Specialty Group, you will have a direct impact on the accuracy and execution of many accounting activities that make up our wide array of specialty insurance operations. This position is based in our Wakefield, MA headquarters location. In this role, you will work across multiple departments beyond accounting, including underwriting and claims. This position will focus on reinsurance accounting.

Performance Objectives:
Within the first 30 days, become familiar with the Specialty Group business (what we do), programs we use (PeopleSoft, RSC, AS400), and the daily operations of the Company as they relate to reinsurance accounting and reporting.
Within the first 60 days, become adept at using our accounting and reinsurance systems for tasks assigned by the Reinsurance Accounting Manager. Learn to facilitate and report reinsurance settlements for both premiums and claims. Respond to inquiries from reinsurers/brokers concerning settlements, claims, and collections and coordinate responses from the various departments. Understand how to review balance sheet accounts in preparation for month-end close.
Within the first 90 days, assist in the month-end closing of business lines within both the reinsurance and the general ledger systems. Set up reinsurance contracts in the reinsurance system. Analyze accounting information to prepare and post entries to general ledger accounts and to document business transactions as it relates to reinsurance activities.
Ongoing, prepare general ledger account reconciliations related to reinsurance activity. Interact with internal and external auditors, as necessary for reinsurance matters. Proactively detect, research, and resolve reconciliation items as they relate to reinsurer balances. Prepare various ad hoc reports using advanced Excel skills.
Your Skills and Experience:
As the ideal candidate, you would bring up to 3 years of relevant and progressive accounting experience. If you have experience in an accounting or finance internship, please apply. In addition, we would like to see:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, a related field, or the equivalent education and/or experience
PeopleSoft and RSC experience a plus
Solid understanding of reinsurance principles and the accounting relationship, preferred
Understanding of the general applications of the reinsurance system and accounting systems, preferred
Excellent written and verbal communications skills with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy
Exceptional organizational and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Intermediate proficiency and experience using Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
