Tippet Rise Art Center is Hiring a Tour Guide Near Fishtail, MT

About Tippet Rise
Tippet Rise Art Center is located in Fishtail, Montana, against the backdrop of the Beartooth Mountains, roughly midway between Billings and Bozeman and north of Yellowstone National Park. Set on a 12,500-acre working sheep and cattle ranch, Tippet Rise celebrates the union of music, art, architecture, and landscape. The art center exhibits large-scale, outdoor sculptures by some of the world’s foremost artists and architects, accessible via 15 miles of hiking and biking trails, or by the art center’s Sculpture Van Tours. Tippet Rise also presents an annual summer concert season—indoors and out—featuring internally acclaimed chamber musicians and soloists.

Open Position: Tour Guide
The primary responsibility of the Tour Guide is to create a positive, informative, and engaging tour for groups of guests. The Tour Guide provides a 2.5-hour tour, two times per day, driving the art center’s 11-passenger vanto showcase the art center grounds and sculptures. (Tippet Rise is open to the public three days a week during the summer, on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.) The Tour Guide must have excellent guest service skills and enthusiasm for Tippet Rise, its vision, and art. Each Sculpture Van Tour includes stops at 5 to 6 of the art center’s monumental sculpture sites located across the ranch, with time for guests to walk up to the sculptures and take photos. The Tour Guide will provide verbal narration during each tour, providing insight on the art center and its history, the sculptures and artists, the land, and the region.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Create a positive guest experience by providing informative and engaging tours of the art center’s grounds and art installations.
  • Serve as a welcoming and knowledgeable guide and be ready to answer questions, assist guests with boarding and disembarking the van, and always maintain a kind demeanor.
  • Learn and impart knowledge about the art center and its history, the art installations and artists, and the surrounding environment and local history. Tour Guides will also provide information about art center operations so as to adequately answer guest questions.
  • Operate the Tippet Rise 12-person vans safely at all times and only on designated routes, as well as follow all Tippet Rise policies related to vehicle operation.
  • Responsible for keeping all tours on schedule.
  • Responsible for understanding and implementing the Tippet Rise Emergency Action Plans, as needed, and assisting in an emergency response, as requested.
  • Assist as needed with various events at Tippet Rise during or outside of normal hours of operation, including concerts, special tours, photography/filming, theater or poetry programs
Required Skills and Qualifications
• Ability to work collaboratively in team environment
  • Education in the arts or natural environment and/or similar work experience preferred
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean current driving history and the ability to operate a 12-person van
  • Excellent guest service skills and ability to create a positive rapport with guests
  • Comfortable with public speaking
  • Enthusiasm for Tippet Rise and its mission
  • Emergency medical training, such as CPR, is a plus
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
• Works primarily outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to drive vehicle on gravel roads for extended periods of time
  • Ability to get in and out of a vehicle and assist guests in and out of a vehicle repeatedly throughout the workday
  • Ability to consistently traverse up to 300 yards on hilly terrain, without a vehicle, up to 12 times a day

Employment Details
Terms: Part-Time Seasonal

Dates: June 6th – August 24th, working weekends Friday-Sunday
(Occasional Thursday’s, last two weekends Saturday only)

Hourly Wage: The salary for this position is $18.00 per hour. The salary represents Tippet Rise Art Center’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
