Timmons Group is seeking an Environmental Scientist I for ourEnvironmental Risk and Remediation Grouplocated in ourRichmond, VAoffice location.The Environmental Scientist I is responsible for preparing any of a combination of ASTM standard due diligence assessments (Phase I/Phase II), Brownfield investigations, state and federal NEPA documents, and other deliverables thatmeet internal and external client expectations, under the tutelage and direction of senior managers and/or the group leader. Completes industry standard documents in compliance with applicable state and/or federal environmental regulations.

This individual must be highly motivated, a self-starter, flexible, detail-oriented, enjoy interactingwith employees and clients; willing to work at a dynamic pace to complete tasks and meet deadlines;and share a commitment to our firm's vision, mission, and shared values.

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Reliably collects and interprets data following established industry and regulatory standards.
  • De-briefs clients and senior staff on investigative findings and contributes to discussions that propose recommendations.
  • Acts independently, using professional judgement, to direct, monitor, andcomplete assigned projects.
  • Actively coordinates project tasks with senior managers and clients.
  • Ensures the accuracy (formal and informal QA/QC) of assigned tasks.
  • Proactively identifies technical, schedule and/or financial issues and seeks resolution from the Project Manager and/or the client, as appropriate to the situation
  • Communicates independently on technical matters with the client when directed by senior managers.
  • Interprets resource data including but not limited to soil surveys, aerial photographs, mapping, field classification of soil properties and/or the potential presence of subsurface contamination or other environmental infractions.
  • Travels out of town or overnight as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills/Requirementsof a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

  • Must have media sampling experience in multiple formats.
  • Must possess strong technical verbal and technical writing skills and be able to read technicalliterature and engineering plans.
  • Must possess strong analytical, problem-solving, and research skills and be able to apply professionalknowledge to deriving solutions of both routine and non-routine tasks as related to engineering activities.
  • Must have strong field skills, capable and willing to perform tasks in all types of weather inoften demanding outdoor conditions and terrain.
  • Must be capable of acting as an independent contributor by successfully completing/directingtasks and delivering technically sound reports and products.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team with excellent time managementskills to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Is expected to develop project management skills through assigned project assignments,
  • GIS skills preferred but not required.

Education and/or Experience

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university, withcoursework in Environmental Science or related field(s)and/or equivalent work experience
  • Three or more years of environmental experience required.
  • Current registration as a Professional Soil Scientist, Registered Environmental Manager, Industrial Hygienist, or ProfessionalGeologist is preferred.
