Job Description
The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board.
Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County.
The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses.
The part-time Career Services Assistant will provide programmatic support and contribute to student economic success and the achievement of Get REAL grant outcomes.
This position will provide general administrative and programmatic support to the Hall and Associates Career Center. The position serves as direct administrative support to the Get REAL Career Advisor and CPL Specialist.
This position delivers and coordinates front office reception services. While the position reports to the Career Center Manager, the Career and Work-Based Learning Advisor and CPL Specialist will also provide direction for this position.
This position will coordinate comprehensive marketing efforts in conjunction with the College’s marketing department.
This is a part-time, restricted position funded by the Title III Strengthening Institutions Program (SIP) Get REAL Grant Refocusing Education on Adult Learners.
Funding for this position has been secured through September 30, 2025. This position is dependent upon the conditions of the Get REAL grant. Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's / Required Qualifications Excellent customer service, human relations, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and customer relations or client databases.
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Ability to work with diverse populations.
Additional Considerations Experience in administrative support, office procedures, office and records management, and office technology.
Experience with word processing, spreadsheet, publishing and database software. Experience working in college setting and / or service-oriented environment preferred.
