JOB PROFILE
The Fleet Manager position has broad responsibility for management of all Product Support vehicles and rolling stock assets including service trucks, delivery trucks, leased vehicles. This position also has responsibility for fixed assets throughout our service facilities. Duties will include establishing vehicle specifications, vehicle selection, coordination of delivery, purchasing and maintaining vehicles, and vehicle registration and licensing. This position will also dispose of older assets through private sale or auctions. In addition, the Fleet Manager will have responsibility for managing company compliance with all company policies, and Federal, State, and local vehicle-related regulations, including compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations for commercial vehicles and regulated drivers. Overall duties will be to maintain safe and efficient company operations, fully compliant with all operational, business, and legal requirements.
The Fleet Manager position can be based in the LaVergne (Nashville) Tennessee company headquarters or in our Memphis Tennessee regional office, with responsibility across the middle and west Tennessee and north Mississippi territory. Reporting to the Vice President of Product Support, the Fleet Manager will regularly travel to facilities across the dealer territory, including occasional overnight stays.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field with minimum 4 years fleet experience or an associate degree in related field with 7-10 years fleet experience.
  • Prior relevant experience and career progression demonstrating aptitude for increased responsibilities.
  • Computer skills: Excel, Word, Internet, and web-based systems.
  • Requires strong interpersonal & communication skills, compliance, implementation, and auditing tasks.
  • Must be familiar with standard DOT or Agency Compliance concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Goal oriented, self-managing with time & project consideration.
  • May require travel to branches and be able to enter/exit vehicles.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Create departmental and fleet expenses and capital budgets, preparing and presenting detailed information to management for approvals.
  • Analyze and determine vehicles to be purchased/leased, developing specifications for how each vehicle is to be equipped.
  • Create/update fleet policy and procedures, to include vehicle assignment, personal use, replacement policy, accident reporting process, and other procedures.
  • Determine fleet processes to be insourced or outsourced, to which suppliers they should be awarded, and act as primary contact with all vehicle-related suppliers. Track supplier performance.
  • Serve as a member of the company safety committee, determine causes and conduct fault analysis, and execute company fleet policy when action is required.
  • Track and report fleet expense performance regularly to management.
  • Oversee the sale of units via wholesale or auction or to employees.
  • Stay current with all DOT Compliance Regulations and how each applies to Thompson Machinery’s operating divisions.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, adaptability and a strong customer service focus.

  • Know and follow all Company and customer safety rules, including maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly work area, fully participating in Company accident prevention and safety improvement activities.
  • Must have the physical ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including protective glasses, protective gloves, and protective clothing and footwear as required by the job.

  • Meet all eligibility requirements to drive Company vehicles, including a current, valid driver's license issued by the resident State, and maintain current motor vehicle liability insurance.
  • Pass pre-employment background check and drug screen.
  • Able to lift up to 20-50 pounds occasionally.
