Thomaston-Upson Schools is Hiring a Principal's Secretary - ULAS Near Thomaston, GA


Role: Principal's Secretary

Location: Upson-Lee Alternative School

Reports to: Principal

FLSA Status: Non Exempt

Contract Days: 200 days

Retirement: TRS

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of secretarial/clerical duties to support supervisory and administrative personnel in handling daily activities.
  • Compose routine correspondence/type correspondence, etc. as directed by the Principal.
  • Distribute mail and other correspondence to appropriate personnel as needed.
  • Answer telephone, screen callers, and refer to appropriate personnel, greet visitors, ascertain nature of business, and direct to appropriate area or personnel.
  • Assist in maintaining efficient office operations by providing clerical relief whenever and wherever needed.
  • Interact effectively with the general public, staff members, students, teachers, parents and administrators, using tact, good judgment and professionalism, and maintaining composure at all times.
  • Operate current office equipment as well as future technology as required by the job.
  • Create and maintain any records, schedules, files, and/or daily, monthly or yearly reports as may be required by the principal and/or Central Office personnel.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality with student, personnel, and any other sensitive information or material.
  • May be required to handle multiple tasks at any given time.
  • Collect, receipt, deposit, and record any funds related to school activities.
  • Maintain accurate bookkeeping information as required by the Principal/ Director or Central Office personnel.
  • Maintain updated and accurate files of general correspondence, business documents, student and employee data, and any other information as directed.
  • Work with the District Office personnel to keep all information current.
  • Create and prepare forms used by the school.
  • Follow work schedule and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable, and punctual manner, demonstrating prompt and regular attendance as well as the ability to adapt to an extended/flexible work schedule.
  • Participate in training programs as required to increase skills and proficiency related to assignment.
  • Ensure adherence to good and appropriate safety procedures.
  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies and administrative directives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or satisfactory completion of a General Education Development (G.E.D.) Testing Program.
  • General office and organizational skills; computer literacy; typing skills; strong communication skills; ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain composure at all times.
