Role: Instructional Coach

Location: Upson-Lee Elementary School

Reports to: Principal

FLSA Status: Exempt

Contract Days: 200 days

Retirement: TRS

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitate effective use of common planning opportunities.
  • Provide core content teachers with guidance, training, and feedback on professional learning initiatives, curriculum initiatives, school improvement initiatives, and classroom management practices.
  • Provide guidance in and interpretation of classroom observation instruments for teachers.
  • Facilitate curriculum study groups for analyzing student work and improving instruction.
  • Research, order, and coordinate use of appropriate materials and tools for classroom use.
  • Model effective teaching practices and instructional strategies in the classroom.
  • Provide core content teachers with training and practice in developing and managing a system of performance assessments for use in measuring and improving student achievement over time.
  • Consult with core content teachers on interpreting test data and planning appropriate instructions based on test results.
  • Guide core content teachers in planning and participating in professional learning experiences relevant to attaining the school's performance goals in collaboration with appropriate school personnel.
  • Assist core content teachers in implementing standards-based instruction aligned with national standards, Georgia's Standards of Excellence, and all other school and district standards for improving instructional program quality.
  • Coordinate vertical team meetings with core content teachers in upper and lower level schools, where applicable, for curriculum articulation and other collaborative teaching.
  • Assist in developing curriculum for specified programs. Review and approve all units and timelines.
  • Communicate to the principal the status of implementation of specified initiatives and identify any problems with the implementation of these initiatives.
  • Demonstrate appropriate use of tools to enhance and extend instruction.
  • Conduct internet research.
  • Attend appropriate professional learning training and conferences, redelivering training and sharing information with other staff.
  • Perform classroom observations to ensure consistent quality standards-based instruction.
  • Perform other duties related to the improvement of student achievement as determined by the principal.
  • Review current development, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
  • Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.
  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies and administrative directives.
  • Support students and staff with encouragement and by building positive relationships.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Hold or be eligible for required certification.
  • Ability to work well with students, parents, staff, and the community.
  • High integrity, excellent character, and good professional reputation.
  • Abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
  • Ability to be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  • Ability to perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Ability to perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
  • Must be able to properly and consistently supervise students particularly during emergency situations.
