Thomaston-Upson Schools is Hiring a Director of School Nutrition Near Thomaston, GA

Role: School Nutrition Director

Location: District Office

Reports to: Superintendent

FLSA Status: Exempt

Contract Days: 230 Days (12 months)

Retirement: TRS

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Establish goals with schools' staff; supervise activities to reach these goals, and evaluate the effectiveness of completed goals.
  2. Help establish and implement standards and policies for school food and nutrition in accordance with local, state and federal requirements.
  3. Consult regularly with principals on all aspects of the food program.
  4. Serve as a resource person to faculty, school and community groups on nutrition and school food service.
  5. Promote the expansion, development and understanding of the school food and nutrition program within schools and the community.
  6. Make regular visits to all schools and provide appropriate follow-up to observations or requests for assistance.
  7. Complete annual evaluations of each school food service program and review staff evaluations.
  8. Hold monthly meetings with lunchroom managers.
  9. Assess training needs of school food service personnel and assess, plan, and provide for in-service training for all food service employees.
  10. Provide resources and consultation for lunchroom managers to use in on-the-job training for employees.
  11. Train managers in the use and care of equipment and in appropriate safety procedures.
  12. Operate the food service program in a cost-efficient manner.
  13. Supervise all financial accounts, food service reports and records to insure accuracy and timeliness.
  14. Plan and supervise catering projects.
  15. Attend seminars, workshops and supervisor meetings as scheduled.
  16. Provide for public information for the school nutrition programs, as needed.
  17. Provide a program for involvement of students, parents and community in the school nutrition program.
  18. Promote professionalism through associations, professional groups, seminars and college course work.
  19. Monitor adherence of nutrition programs to federal, state and local laws and regulations concerning such matters as sanitation, safety and nutritional standards of the meal program.
  20. Monitor the Community Eligibility Provision/free and reduced-price meal application processing, bid and procurement processing and inventory.
  21. Possess and maintain valid and appropriate license, certificate and/or credential as may be required for this position.
  22. Follow work scheduling and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable and punctual manner.
  23. Participate in training programs to increase skills and proficiency related to assignment.
  24. Follow federal and state laws as well as Board policies.
  25. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education, Licenses and/or Certificates

Education, Licenses and/or Certificates - Must be certified or eligible for certification as Director of School Nutrition, which requires:

Completion of Master's Degree in School Nutrition. or

Bachelor's Degree (food service management, nutrition, dietetics or family consumer science field preferred) AND acceptance into a Master's Program in School Nutrition. or

Master's Degree (food service management, nutrition, dietetics or family consumer science field preferred) AND completion of or acceptance into School Nutrition Program.

  • Hold or be eligible for required certification.
  • Ability to work well with students, parents, staff, and the community.
  • High integrity, excellent character, and good professional reputation.
  • Abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
  • Ability to be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  • Ability to perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Ability to perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
  • Must be able to properly and consistently supervise students particularly during emergency situations.
