Thomas Jefferson University & Jefferson Health is Hiring an Orofacial Pain Residency Program at Thomas Jefferson University Near Philadelphia, PA

Thomas Jefferson University is recruiting applicants for a two-year CODA accredited orofacial pain residency program. The program will focus on the diagnosis and management of conditions affecting the head and neck including orofacial pain, headache disorders, temporomandibular joint disorders, neuropathic pain, cranial neuralgias, oromotor disorders, and obstructive sleep apnea.

The program offers a comprehensive clinical and didactic experience to prepare residents to become leaders in the field of orofacial pain and headache medicine. In addition to clinical training and a robust didactic curriculum, residents will rotate through related departments including otolaryngology, neurology, neurosurgery, sleep medicine, and the world-renowned Jefferson Headache Center.

The didactic curriculum is based on the American Academy of Orofacial Pain and the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) and will include courses in sleep medicine, oral medicine, headache medicine, pharmacology, head and neck anatomy, the mechanisms involved in pain, biostatistics, and research, along with participating in weekly headache conference and weekly journal club. The program aims to provide residents with a fundamental understanding of the pathophysiology involved with pain disorders of the head and neck. Residents will gain extensive exposure and become confident diagnosing, treating, and managing neuropathic pain, headache disorders, musculoskeletal and myofascial pain disorders, TMJ disorders, sleep apnea, and orofacial dystonias.

In addition to clinical and didactics, the program is committed to advancing the field of orofacial pain through research. Thus, residents are required to become actively engaged in research and to write an article for submission in a peer-reviewed journal.
