Prior coaching and competitive experience is requested, with collegiate coaching experience preferred

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Intercollegiate Athletic Recruiter will organize and manage the Thomas Jefferson University Department of Athletics recruiting program in accordance with University, Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), and National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division II (DII) policies, rules and regulations. Duties include but are not limited to increasing exposure for the intercollegiate athleticsrsquo; DII programs, specifically in the sport of menrsquo;s soccer. Interacting with athletics department and office of admissions to maximize walk-ons or minimal (to no) scholarship individuals on intercollegiate rosters. Assisting with on and off campus athletic recruiting and increasing the overall University profitability through increased intercollegiate squad sizes.

The Head Coach is the individual charged (in conjunction with the AVP for Athletics) with the responsibility, planning, programming, directing, supervising, and implementing of duties and functions for the menrsquo;s soccer program. The Head Coach must work closely with all others involved in carrying out the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletic program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist with the overall organization and management of the athletic recruiting process in conjunction with the Compliance Officer in accordance with University, CACC, and NCAA DII policies, rules and regulations.
  • Increase overall University profitability through increased squad size for the Athletic Departmentrsquo;s seventeen varsity intercollegiate sports where applicable, in particular for menrsquo;s soccer.
  • Coordinate with the Admissions Department to increase exposure for Jefferson intercollegiate athletics, where applicable.
  • Serve as primary recruiting contact in the Department of Athletics to assist all intercollegiate part-time head coaches, when necessary.
  • Interacts with students, co-workers, visitors, and other individuals consistent with the values of Jefferson.

OTHER FUNCTIONS AND COMPETENCIES needed in addition to Essential Functions:

Recruiter:

  • Serve as primary contact for prospective student-athletes with interest in athletics, if the respective head coach is not available.
  • In conjunction with the AVP for Athletics, manage and facilitate representation of the Department of Athletics at University Open Houses and new student orientation sessions.
  • Effectively encourage new student-athletes to attend Jefferson.
  • Attend to all other duties as assigned by the AVP.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date on all NCAA DII and CACC compliance rules, regulations, and policies in regards to the recruitment process.

Head Coach:

  • Responsible for administrating all aspects of the program under his/her charge including coaching, promoting, making team travel arrangements, requisitioning and maintaining equipment, recruiting of prospective players, supervising assistants, monitoring academic progress of student-athletes, and planning of annual competition schedule with prior approval by the AVP (required).
  • Responsible for being thoroughly familiar with and complying with all University, Department, CACC and NCAA DII policies, and disseminate such information to assistant coaches and student athletes. This includes annual completion of the NCAA DII coaches certification test.
  • Responsible for assisting in the preparation of, and adhering to, deadlines and specific dates for the timely completion of all forms and related materials.
  • Responsible for arranging with the Coordinator of Facilities for use of appropriate facilities, and keeping the AVP informed of the condition of equipment and facilities. All camps and clinics to be offered by the head coach, on or off campus, require pre-approval by the AVP and Compliance Officer.
  • Responsible for providing instructions and training necessary to create skills, techniques, and physical conditioning sufficient to enable each participant to compete safely and competently.
  • Responsible for providing on-site supervision during all practice and game situations including locker room supervision and all soccer related requiring transportation.
  • Responsible for providing the Compliance Officer a list of recruited and current roster players and completed annual NCAA forms and requested scholarship allocations prior to the start of stated NCAA DII guidelines.
  • Responsible for cooperating with the Athletic Trainer to insure student-athletes have returned all the necessary annual medical forms and maintain contact with ATCs regarding injured or rehabbing athletes.
  • Responsible for reporting all serious injuries of the student-athletes to the AVP and the Athletic Trainer within 24 hours of the injury.
  • In coordination with the AVP, fulfill the responsibilities and/or assist with requests from the athletics liaisons assigned to the Offices of Institutional Advancement, Alumni Relations, Community Engagement, Athletics and University Marketing amp; Communications.
  • Responsible for exhibiting a high level of expertise in his/her sport and seek self-improvement by attending clinics, workshops, seminars, and other related development programs as approved by the AVP.
  • Responsible for maintaining current CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification.
  • Responsible for treating the academic achievement and requirements necessary for progress toward a degree as a matter of the highest priority for the student-athlete, and to be sensitive to class and final examination schedules when scheduling practice and game competition.
  • Responsible for managing the activities of his or her squads in a fair-minded, honest, efficient, and financially responsible manner.
  • Responsible for treating opposing coaches, officials, students and colleagues with respect and dignity.
  • Responsible for encouraging student-athletes to have fun in their sport and recognize individual outstanding single or combined efforts.
  • Attend to all other duties as assigned by the AVP.
