Thomas Health System Physician Partners is Hiring a Patient Referral Specialist Near South Charleston, WV

  • JOB SUMMARY
      The Patient Referral Specialist is responsible for coordinating specialty and ancillary care for patients in need of internal or external consultation as requested by the physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant. The Referral Specialist is responsible for obtaining prior authorizations for all procedural orders by successfully completing the authorization process with all payers. The Patient Referral Specialist will also be responsible for scheduling, tracking, referral case management and providing reports. The Patient Referral Specialist will represent the company professionally and positively to enhance and promote the core values and mission of Thomas Health, always exercising utmost discretion, diplomacy and tact in customer interactions.
  • EDUCATION
    • This individual must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • LICENSURE
    • NA
  • EXPERIENCE
    • Prefer minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office.
    • Previous experience managing and coordinating scheduling, referrals and prior authorization is a plus.
  • CERTIFICATION
    • Prefer certified level Medical Assistant or an applicant who has been thru training and is certificate eligible.
  • COMPUTER/TYPING/MATH SKILLS
    • Standard office and medical equipment with emphasis on computer hardware and software, electronic health records, and other equipment used to carry out the duties of the position.
    • Excellent computer skills are necessary to perform various job duties in the clinical area as well as the front office function.
    • Strong communication, both verbal and written, is necessary.
  • JOB SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
    • Knowledge:
      • Knowledge of health care field and medical office protocols/procedures.
      • Knowledge of specific assisting tasks related to particular medical practice.
      • Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families.
      • Knowledge of proper grammar and spelling
      • Knowledge of medical terminology
      • Knowledge of patient billing and scheduling software preferred
    • Skill in front office and back office duties of a physician clinic.
    • Skill intact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions.
    • Skill in understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families.
    • Skill in closing the loop on multiple tasks
    • Skill in handling electronic forms, paperwork/filing adequately
    • Skill in handling incoming phone calls and triaging appropriately
    • Skill in written and verbal communication
    • Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures.
    • Ability to project a pleasant and professional image.
    • Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete delegated tasks.
    • Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.
    • Ability to learn/use other computer programs including Microsoft® Excel, e-mail, Internet, and Electronic Health Records systems
    • Ability to work effectively as a team member with physicians and other staff.
    • Ability to maintain a professional manner even under challenging situations.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the providers
