WORKING HOURS: Typically, between 8-5pm M-F (open to some flexibility)

WORK LOCATION: Corporate Office - 32 Crosby Dr Bedford MA 01730 

POSITION PURPOSE:

Thermacell is seeking an Electrical Engineer to perform electrical, electronics, and firmware work in new product development and product support. The role will also work with external development partners and contract manufacturers as needed and provide support in the evaluation and qualification of components and suppliers. The role will deal with all Thermacell’s products, including battery-powered rechargeable portable products and AC-powered systems. This position will report directly to the VP of Research, Development & Engineering.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and develop new products alongside engineers and scientists, being responsible for the electronics and firmware system functionality to ensure successful delivery to market.
  • Design and collaborate on circuit board development and all electrical engineering aspects of a development project, including initial design, proof of concept, prototyping, testing, documentation, and more.
  • Develop, enhance, debug, and maintain new and existing firmware for microcontrollers and IOT Wi-Fi and Bluetooth embedded devices.
  • Work collaboratively with the engineering team, suppliers, and outside partners to ensure work is peer-reviewed and to learn from one another.
  • Collaborate with Contract Manufacturers (CMs) to support diagnostics and operations.
  • Sustaining engineering: Support existing products and designs and update or improve as needed.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments and outside resources to ensure all aspects of projects are a success.
  • Design and execute test plans to ensure performance and quality.
  • Produce high-quality technical documentation as required, including schematics, technical drawings (including PCB manufacturing documents), reports, product specifications, test plans, work instructions, and more.

  • Curiosity, creativity, and resourcefulness are required. Ability to handle multiple assignments and be agile and adaptable.
  • Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and personal accountability at a project level, not just at the task level.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced self-directed environment.
  • Excellent analytical & problem-solving skills with strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Consumer product experience a plus.

COMPENSATION

Compensation for this position will include a competitive base salary and an annual incentive bonus program-details proved separately. Benefits for this position will consist of vacation benefits at a competitive level & 10 paid company holidays. Additionally, a company shut-down period is offered for one week between Christmas and New Year’s Day.

You may start contributing to our 401k after completing 30 days of service (enrolling on the first of the following month). You will be eligible for the employer match up to 4% (base salary overtime wages - subject to the IRS legal limit) after completing one year of service.

Requirements

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • Minimum of 2 years of direct, hands-on experience in new product development of electrical and electromechanical devices.
  • Experience with circuit design and development, ideally with experience in designing for low-cost, high-volume manufacturing.
  • Experience in creating PCB schematics and layouts using Altium or equivalent, and competency in electrical technical documentation.
  • Experience with microcontrollers such as STM32, ESP32, etc., a plus.
  • Experience with C/C . Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python a plus.
  • Ability to interface with RESTful API or similar a plus.
  • Experience with bench-level debugging of complex electrical systems incorporating embedded code.
  • Experience with diagnostics and functional testing.
  • Ability to design and build prototype breadboard/benchtop development units.
  • Experience with all phases of the product development lifecycle is a plus.
  • Familiarity with change control process and engineering documentation a plus.
