POSITION OVERVIEW


The Girls' Basketball Head of Program at Westminster Schools in Atlanta, GA is responsible for leading and managing the girls' basketball program at all levels, including middle school, JV, and varsity. This individual serves as the Head Coach of the varsity girls' basketball program. This position requires a strong background in basketball coaching, leadership skills, and a passion for developing student-athletes both on and off the court. The Head of Program will oversee all aspects of the girls' basketball program, including player development, team management, program administration, and intentional development of the program's pipeline of talent.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Assistant Girls Basketball Coaches

Position Status: Salaried, exempt, full-time, regular

Hours of Work: Standard work week. Evening and weekend work is required.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  Program Development and Management


  • Develops and implements a comprehensive girls' basketball program for all tiers (middle school, JV, and varsity) that aligns with the school's mission and values.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to coaches at all levels of the program to ensure a cohesive coaching staff and program alignment. 
  • Plans and conducts effective practices focusing on skill development, strategy, and teamwork for all tiers.
  • Evaluates and selects players for each team through tryouts and ongoing assessments, considering the needs of each tier.
  • Creates a positive and inclusive team culture that promotes sportsmanship, respect, and personal growth at all levels.
  • Fosters strong relationships with student-athletes, parents, and the school community across all tiers.
  • Builds and manages the scheduling of games, practices, tournaments, and other team events for each tier of the program.
  • Organizes and oversees youth clinics, summer camps, and summer development programs to build and develop the program's pipeline of talent and engagement.
  • Manages the program within the parameters of an approved budget.
  • Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Compliance with GHSA Rules and Regulations


  • Ensures compliance with the rules and regulations set forth by the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) for all aspects of the girls' basketball program.
  • Stays up to date with any changes or updates to GHSA rules and regulations and communicates them to the coaching staff, student-athletes, and parents.
  • Maintains accurate records and documentation required by the GHSA, including player eligibility, game schedules, and team rosters.
  • Coordinates with the athletic department to ensure timely completion and submission of necessary paperwork and forms.
  • Attends GHSA meetings, workshops, and training sessions to stay informed and maintain compliance.
  • Educates student-athletes, coaches, and parents about GHSA rules and regulations emphasizing fair play, sportsmanship, and ethical conduct.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Support for Student-Athletes


  • Provides guidance and support to student-athletes interested in pursuing basketball at the collegiate or professional level.
  • Assists student-athletes in navigating the college recruitment process, including providing resources and information on showcases, camps, and recruitment timelines.
  • Collaborates with college coaches and scouts to promote student-athletes and facilitate exposure opportunities.
  • Offers guidance on academic requirements and eligibility for student-athletes interested in playing basketball in college.
  • Provides resources and support for skill development and showcasing abilities through additional training, camps, and tournaments.
  • Fosters relationships with club/AAU coaches, college coaches, and recruiters to advocate for student-athletes and facilitate connections.
  • Stays informed about NCAA and NAIA rules and regulations regarding recruitment and eligibility.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Professional Development and Coaching Excellence


  • Attends conferences and the annual coaches' convention with the coaching staff to stay current with best practices in coaching basketball.
  • Shares knowledge and insight gained from conferences and conventions with the coaching staff to enhance coaching techniques, strategies, and player development.
  • Collaborates with the coaching staff to implement new ideas and approaches into the girls' basketball program.
  • Encourages and supports professional development opportunities for assistant coaches.
  • Actively seeks out and identifies coaching talent that can contribute to the program.
  • Provides mentorship and support to assistant coaches, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Fosters a positive and collaborative coaching environment that encourages open communication and teamwork.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS


  • Current active or currently pursuing employment as a Westminster Faculty or Staff Member
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred;
  • Previous coaching experience;
  • Working knowledge of computer and statistical programs;
  • Strong writing, organizational, administrative, and communication skills;
  • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, faculty, and community members;
  • Knowledge of GHSA rules and regulations;
  • CPR and First Aid Certified - preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT


While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; and engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to become CPR and First Aid Certified.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be exposed to outside weather conditions and may frequently walk on slippery or uneven surfaces. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.

TRAVEL


Travel is primarily local during the regular business day. Overnight and out-of-area travel will be required.
