General Summary:
Employee performs duties relative to the protection of lives and property within The Villages, under the supervision of the Public Safety Captain and/or the Director of Public Safety. Work schedule is Sunday-Thursday 7:00am to 3:00pm.
Qualifications:
· Must possess high school diploma or general education (GED) certificate
· Ability to effectively communicate in English, verbally and in writing
· Bilingual is desired, preferably Spanish
· Previous work in law enforcement, security, military, or related fields is desired
· Ability to handle a wide variety of situations up to and including medical emergencies
· Ability to perform extensive physical labor
· Computer expertise is desired
· Must have a valid California Class C driver’s license with a clear DMV record
· Must pass a drug screening test prior to employment
· CPR/AED, Standard First Aid and BBP training and certifications are required within one month after the hire date
Job Responsibilities
· Prevent entry of unauthorized personnel
· Perform motorized patrols within the confines of The Villages complex to include selective traffic enforcement
· Respond to medical emergencies and provide basic First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) as required
· Enforce all Villages rules and policies
· Conduct investigations, write reports, memorandums, and citations
· Physically check all club facilities for safety and security
· Capture and control both domestic and wild animals
· Assist resident with appliance, electrical, and plumbing problems when requested and as appropriate
· Observe and report to appropriate department(s) all potentially hazardous or wasteful conditions, and report all exterior lighting outages
· Perform preventive maintenance on all security vehicles, including but not limited to checking fluid levels, washing, and maintaining fuel
· Locate, identify, and isolate water main breaks, utility malfunctions or hazards, and sprinkler breaks and/or leaks
· Occasionally investigate potentially sensitive incidents involving residents, guests, and employees and keep collected information confidential
· Distribute confidential documents to selected personnel within The Villages
· Perform other duties as may be assigned
· Coordinate on a daily basis with other Villages employees, guests, and residents
Job Requirements:
· Passing of a background check
· Must be able to possess a current California Guard Card within 60 days from the hire date
· Ability to solve practical problems and cope with a wide range of situations
· Ability to interpret a variety of written, oral, or scheduled formatted instructions
· May be required to work in inclement weather conditions
· May work near moving mechanical parts, such as vehicles and a variety of construction and landscape equipment
· May be occasionally exposed to diesel or gasoline exhaust fumes or airborne particles
· Required to operate four-wheeled passenger vehicles up to and including three quarter-ton trucks
· To use a mobile radar unit and computer terminal
· May be required to work different shifts, weekend days and holidays
Physical Requirements:
Excellent mobility is mandatory.
Required to use hands and fingers, handle and feel objects, tools, and controls. Officer/Sergeant/Captain is required to stand for extended periods of time, walk for extended periods of time, sit, reach with hands and arms, able to reach above their head/shoulders, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally move/lift an adult during the course of a medical emergency, and be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times during their shift. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in work environment is usually moderate.
