Salary Range: Commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.
Hours: up to 40 hours per week, exempt.

Function: Responsible for server management and maintenance of the day-to-day activities supporting departmental systems and software. Responsible for administering and managing multiple data systems. Patching, updating and upgrading these systems. To include a knowledge of documentation, virtual environments application-level protocols, security, network, and server operating systems support and administration.
Scope: Responsible for assisting computer support assistants and students with software and hardware provided in laboratories and oversee computer lab personnel.
Duties
Typical:
- Administers, configures, and maintains servers, storage products, and applications relevant to the department.
- Analyzes existing systems and procedures and evaluates system performance according to current requirements.
- Manages, tests, and provides support to multiple systems and servers in a small data center environment.
- Monitors systems for optimal performance and efficiency.
- Coordinates routine maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of applications and server issues.
- Keeps usage of the network within both legal and necessary functional boundaries.
- Performs emergency maintenance and recovery during failures or issues.
- Serves as team liaison when managing projects and coordinating with OIT staff.
- Provides end-user support to staff members.
- Acts as a liaison between designers of systems and the users of the systems and recommends appropriate applications within the system requirements
- Assist the supervisor in monitoring lab operations for maximum effectiveness, including supply control,
- Identifies and documents service problems or deficiencies in the lab, reporting to the supervisor with
- Performs other duties defined by department and leadership in support of strategic project requirements.
- Participate in technical and customer service training, including self-paced and other staff development
- Assists in training lower classified personnel.
- Produces weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports when requested.
- Present systems metrics and studies when requested.
Systems Administrator
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Four years of experience in technological project management and/or coordination.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
- Six years of experience in server hardware architecture
- Windows based server environments.
- Mainstream networking environments (switches, firewalls, VPNs).
- Server and client virtualization using industry leading visualization tools.
- Security platforms and orchestration tools common to Windows server/networking environments.
- Linux (host-based) environments.
- Exercise initiative, discretion, and flexibility.
- Work effectively with a variety of professionals, administrators, and support staff given general supervision from immediate supervisor.
- Ability to recruit, manage, and mentor student laboratory assistants.
- Computer Science or Information Systems Degree preferred.
- One year of demonstrated server administration experience.
- In depth knowledge of VMware server and desktop virtualization implementation and maintenance.
- Experience with vCenter, vSphere, ESXi and related virtualization productivity tools.
- Learning Management System (LMS) experience.
- UTSA is a tobacco free campus.
