Department Summary
The University of Denver’s Morgridge College of Education (MCE) invites applications for the position of Manager, Financial Aid.
The Morgridge College of Education’s vision is to train global leaders who employ innovative and effective approaches to advance learning throughout the lifespan, educational change, and social equity. Our programs prepare ethical, collaborative practitioners who can apply principles to promote learning and development with diverse clients and communities. We are looking for a candidate who can lead efforts to promote MCE and recruit quality graduate level students to our programs. This is a full-time, benefitted position.

Position Summary

The Manager of Financial Aid partners with the Dean and the Assistant Dean of Business & Operations and is responsible for developing annual and multi-year financial aid awarding plans that strategically deploy available scholarship and discount funds, with the goal of recruiting an outstanding and diverse study body; analyzing and reporting upon enrollment, scholarship and discount awards, persistence, and related trends with the objective of developing robust enrollment management models and advancing sound enrollment management practices; and contributing to efforts in the realms of affordability and financial transparency, including counseling students regarding scholarship opportunities, financing options, and loan repayment. Additionally, this position oversees the financial aid for the Ricks School and Fisher Early Learning Center. This position has a dotted reporting line to the Assistant Dean of Enrollment Management & Marketing. The ideal candidate will have the proven skills outlined below and the ability to oversee financial aid and operational projects from inception to completion.
Essential Functions

Financial Aid

  • Liaises with Central Financial Aid Office on Financial Aid policies and issues
  • Assists the AD with current year tuition forecasting for the college and schools
  • Assists with future year budget development process with the AD
  • Assists the AD with planning strategic funding and general business operations.
  • Directs the processes for analysis of tuition, enrollment, discount rates, and other areas as directed by the AD.
  • Counsel applicants, students, and graduates regarding financial aid and financing options, including student loan repayment and forgiveness plans
  • Report upon enrollment, scholarship and discount awards, persistence, and related enrollment trends, with the objective of developing robust enrollment management models and advancing sound enrollment management practices
  • Gift and Endowment financial management as applicable.
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports to the school’s accreditor and other outside bodies bearing on student financial management.

Operations and Supplemental Support

Assists the MCE Business Team to accomplish the following:

  • Conduct training sessions and coordinates onboarding for new staff members with financial aid responsibilities
  • Work to review the college’s business process and their continuous improvement.
  • Provides and manages backup support for essential business functions in college departments during staff vacancies.
  • Other duties as assigned by the dean and AD.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to develop, read, analyze, and interpret general business, financial documents, and budget reports.
  • Excellent computational and analytical skills in understanding budgets, calculating payroll, and making multi-year projections.
  • Excellent ability to work independently, solve problems, provide positive leadership, and demonstrate due discretion and excellent judgment.
  • Excellent skills in conflict resolution.
  • Proven ability to work with a high level of independence, maintain confidentiality, prioritize assignments and division needs
  • Ability to conceptualize, analyze and strategize numerous budgets, financial planning, and outcomes as they apply to the financial health of the division.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of experience working in a financial aid environment.
  • Experience with budget forecasting and development, financial aid management, and accounting oversight.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in business, accounting, or related field.
  • 3 years of work experience with budget forecasting and development, financial aid management, and accounting oversight.
  • Higher education experience.
  • Proven ability to forge mutually beneficial relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Up-to-date understanding of student financial aid policies and developments

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with the possibility of remote days.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $57,000 - $65,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
