The University of Alabama is Hiring a Contract Specialist I Near Tuscaloosa, AL

Pay Grade/Pay Range: Minimum: $62,300 - Midpoint: $81,000 (Salaried E10)

Department/Organization: 502308 - Contract Management

Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm

Job Summary: The Contract Specialist I ensures legal compliance with Alabama Public Works Law. Ensures compliance with federal statutes and regulations. Drafts contracts and develops efficient methods to process and execute contractual documents.

Additional Department Summary: The Contract Specialist I interprets and negotiates purchasing contracts on behalf of the University in conjunction with applicable laws, University policies and best practices. Interprets contractual provisions and identify issues regarding insurance, indemnity, dispute resolution, and other risk factors. Recommends acceptable solutions to unfavorable risk factors and other associated legal matters that align with the University’s position and goals. Manages the collaborative review process with other campus stakeholders through completion.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of contract management, negotiation, development, and/or compliance experience; OR master's degree and two (2) years of contract management, negotiation, development, and/or compliance; OR juris doctorate and some experience in contract management, negotiation, development, and/or compliance experience.

Skills and Knowledge: Broad knowledge and thorough understanding of contract management, the legal aspects of contracting.

Preferred Qualifications: History of increasing workplace responsibility and experience, preferably in an institution of higher education Contract Management or Purchasing department. Significant knowledge of business law, compliance, and contract management. A JD, CPPM, CPPO or equivalent certification.
