Title: Youth Minister

Purpose: Provide spiritual direction to youth through Bible study, outreach, individual encouragement and group activities. Empower and provide

opportunities for the Middle and High School youth of Park Avenue United Methodist Church to be a part of the ministry of our broader church body.

Spiritual Qualifications: Personal relationship with Jesus Christ as demonstrated through a commitment to Christ’s teachings in both language and actions. Candidate should exhibit gifting in

relational mentorship/discipleship, mercy, teaching, pastoral care, and compassion.

Skills/Qualifications:

• Mature, stable, creative adaptable, high-energy adult with passion for ministering to and with youth
• Able to understand youth’s needs and ability to communicate well with youth and their guardians and effectively serve people of diverse backgrounds
• Able to delegate effectively and have strong organizational and budgeting ability, time management skills
• Attention to detail, self-starter, commitment to excellence
• Able to collaborate and communicate well with others on staff
• Able to recruit, form, manage and lead a team of volunteers
• No criminal record
• Two years of experience in youth programming, with a proven impact
• Degree in education, ministry, or a seminary degree preferred
• Support the overall mission, vision, beliefs and strategy of Park Avenue United Methodist Church

Principle Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Regularly meet with church staff and Family Pastor to plan and coordinate strategic church plans, schedules, and visions of the church.
• Regularly communicate and coordinate studies, events and schedules with the Family Ministry Team.
• Give direction to and oversee the Middle School and High School youth ministry by:
  • Leading Sunday morning youth worship service with an emphasis on message delivery.
  • Identifying the needs and interests of teens within the church and community.
  • Planning and developing programs for the youth ministry.
  • Effectively promoting youth events and studies by updating various forms of media: email, social media, texting services, church website, etc.
  • Evaluating existing programs to determine effectiveness.
  • Identifying and developing teen leaders for Park Avenue Youth Ministry and beyond.
  • Assisting with the process of identifying and providing service opportunities for youth.
  • Meet monthly with youth ministry leaders to pray, discuss upcoming events, challenges, solutions and praises.
  • Recruit and train youth workers as needed.
  • Provide occasional mentorship, care and spiritual direction that focuses on individual needs of specific youth.
  • Participate in outreach ministry to youth who have visited and regularly attend the church through visits, letters, programs, attending school sporting and artistic events, etc.
  • Plan youth retreats for the purpose of spiritual edification.
  • Regularly participate and occasionally preach in Sunday Worship
  • Services as requested, most notably on the first Sunday of each month.
  • Visit youth who are hospitalized and follow-up with families accordingly.
  • Participate in training opportunities annually or as presented.
