The Texas A&M University System is Hiring a Resource specialist Near Kirbyville, TX

Job Description

The Resource Specialist at the Magnolia Springs Seed Orchard will assist the Farm Foreman in the performance of field activities associated with the agency pine, hardwood and urban tree improvement programs.

Responsibilities :

  • Perform activities associated with the daily operation of the agency tree improvement programs including mowing, irrigation, grafting, graft maintenance, pruning and pesticide application.
  • Graft, establish and maintain various hardwood seed orchards as well as collect hardwood seed for the hardwood and urban programs.
  • Maintain computer records on the seed orchard.
  • Schedule and perform routine maintenance on equipment, facilities and vehicles.
  • Assist agency crews with progeny test measurements, grafting and pollination.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions : May require exposure to weather. Must be willing to operate lift equipment during seasonal periods.

May require walking, standing, twisting and bending for extended periods of time. May require lifting heavy objects. Hours of work are 6 : 00am to4 : 30 pm Monday - Thursday.

Overnight travel for periods of up to one week are required.

Education and Experience :

Required Education : High school graduate or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Preferred Knowledge : Knowledge of farming principles.

Required Abilities : Multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Abilities : Ability to operate a wide variety of agricultural equipment.

Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses :

Required : Valid Texas Drivers license. Ability to acquire a Class B or higher license within first year of employment.

Preferred : Pesticide applicator's license. Wildland Fire Chainsaw - TFS FAL3

Other Requirements :

Preferred : Basic mechanical repair skills.
