Position Summary 

It is the role of the Food Safety Specialist to support the Food Safety Team. The Food Safety Specialist is responsible for data collection and analysis, to identify trends, potential threats and business opportunities. Reports generated by the Food Safety Specialist will be used by the Food Safety Team to drive continuous improvement in food safety within REEF businesses.

Key Responsibilities

  • This role will oversee all administrative support functions related to the third-party audit program including:
    • Review third-party food safety audit reports for accuracy.
    • Escalates high-risk findings and audit failures for immediate support.
    • Oversight of Audit Partner audit schedules to ensure adherence to vendor obligations/Statement of Work.
    • Track compliance for third-party audit program corrective action plans
    • Regularly obtain Kitchens location lists and audit report distribution hierarchy and communicate to third-party audit vendor
    • Submit monthly purchase orders for third-party audits in a timely manner
  • Leverage technology to analyze trends and generate regular food safety performance reports (i.e., internal audit data, third-party audit data, health department inspection data, etc.)
  • Partner with Food Safety team in assessing 3rd- party audit program and health department inspection data to ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains and follows up on completion of internal food safety follow-up escalation assessments
  • Collect and track health inspection reports/results. Review all reports for impending enforcement action, or the need for otherwise urgent or timely technical support and escalate to the Food Safety Team as appropriate.
  • Will have accountability of the Food Protection Manager and Food Handler certification process, ensuring all employees are certified as required
  • Maintain document control for food safety-related SOP and other materials
  • Monitor pest control program and analyze data. Escalates high-risk findings for immediate support.
  • Partner with procurement team on vendor management to impact ROI of programs
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Overnight travel up to 20%.
  • BS degree is preferred in Biology, Food Science, Public/Environmental Health, or Restaurant/Hospitality or a combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a food safety role
  • Exposure to third-party food safety audits and understands Food Safety Audit principles
  • Experience with regulatory inspections.
  • Food Protection Manager Certification (ANSI accredited) preferred, otherwise will be required within 15 days of starting in the role
  • In-depth knowledge of the FDA Model Food Code, retail food regulations.
  • Can quickly learn state and /local public health programs.
  • Adept in conducting technical research with intellectual curiosity.
  • Ability to work independently or with some support in planning and implementing multiple projects and assignments
