The Tatitlek Corporation is Hiring a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) Near Oklahoma, OK

Overview

Under the General Supervision of the General Manager, the Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the planning, implementation and supervision of the Accident Prevention Plan. The SSHO will be on site at all times when work is being performed and be responsible for the overall management of the safety and occupational health program. The SSHO will conduct daily safety and health inspections and maintain a written log which includes area/operation inspected, date of inspection, identified hazards, recommended corrective actions, estimated and actual dates of corrections.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Must be able to write up a job specific Accident Prevention Plan
  • Conducts daily safety and health inspections and maintains a written log which includes are/operation inspected, date of inspection, identified hazards, recommended corrective actions, estimated and actual dates of corrections and attached safety inspection logs to the Contractors’ daily quality control report
  • Conduct mishap investigations and complete required reports.
  • Maintains the OSHA Form 300 and Daily Production reports for prime and subcontractors
  • Maintain applicable safety reference material on the job site.
  • Attends the pre-construction conference, pre-work meetings including preparatory inspection meeting and periodic in-progress meetings
  • Implement and enforce accepted APPS and AHA’s.
  • Maintains a safety and health deficiency tracking system that monitors outstanding deficiencies until resolution
  • Posts a list of unresolved safety and health deficiencies on the safety bulletin board
  • Ensures sub-contractor compliance with safety and health requirements
  • Maintains a list of hazardous chemicals onsite and their Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)

Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Travel may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Have a thorough and working knowledge of the plans and specifications or project scope of work and Quality Control requirements.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft computer applications.
  • Proficiency in scheduling software.
  • High attention to detail and quality workmanship.
  • Knowledge of acceptable construction site practices including occupational safety and health regulations.
  • Talking to others to convey information effectively.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and writing with internal and external clients and co-workers.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and be able to communicate the work requirements with and various staff and subcontractors.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and work well under stress and maintain deadlines. Ability to be flexible and adapt to constant change.
  • Ability to work flexible hours in order to meet deadlines.
  • Exhibit an acceptable degree of self-confidence.
  • Knowledge of acceptable construction site practices including occupational safety and health regulations.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing with internal and external clients and co-workers.
  • Ability to follow direction is a must.
  • Determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to complete each task assignment.
  • Must be comfortable with high intensity work environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office products required.

QUALIFICATIONS: Experience, Education, and Certifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of construction field experience in the role of Site Safety Health Officer on projects $10 million and more in size, or
  • Three (3) years of construction field experience in the role of Site Safety Health Officer if he/she possesses a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or safety and health degree.
  • Completion of OSHA thirty (30) hour safety course within the last three (3) years or thirty (30) hours of formal construction safety and health training covering the subjects of the OSHA thirty (30) hour course.
  • An average of at least twenty four (24) hours of formal safety training each year for the past four (4) years.
  • Competent person training
  • Current completion of First Aid and CPR
  • Proficient in PC based programs including Microsoft and construction scheduling programs.
  • Government contracting experience.
  • COE Contractor Quality Control Certificate.

Preferred

  • A four (4) year degree in an accredited construction related curriculum or a combination of work experience/education equivalent to a four (4) year degree.
  • ACI certifications.
  • Prior successful military service in either combat arms or military construction/engineering.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is usually in a field setting. The employee will be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is consistent with construction sites. Travel may be required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • May assist in supervising subcontractors or Tatitlek crews.

Additional Qualifying Factors

A satisfactory background screening, negative drug test, positive references and proof of identity and legal authorization to work in the United States and for TTI are required. This position may be subject to random drug and/or alcohol testing on an unannounced basis.
