Your Specific Responsibilities:

The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County invites you to apply to be a part of the Be U Sarasota Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) team. We are currently looking for a Health Educator that would be interested in nurturing, educating, and developing young minds in Sarasota County. The day-to-day activities of a Health Educator involve travel and direct interaction with students of Sarasota County. Once in the schools Health Educators will be required to present information such as Human Growth & Development, Sexually Transmitted Infections, Pregnancy Prevention, and Healthy Relationships. Health Educators are also required to educate adult members in Sarasota County on topics such as Sexual Transmitted Infections, Healthy Relationships, and How to Communicate with your Child. This is a grant funded position and as such monthly paperwork is required to maintain the grant deliverables. This is a 40-hour 12-month position with varying start times as Health Educators will be required to match school start/end times. As a Health Educator you will have local support from Department of Health clerks who reside in the School Health office, as well as support from the amazing grant personnel at the Tallahassee office. Training, monthly report assistance, and any general questions you have about being a Health Educator the state SRAE team is ready to help. This is a position with the Florida Department of Health and as a full-time employee you will receive the same benefits as any other FLDOH employee. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate clearly in oral and written formats
  • Ability to collect and compile data
  • Skill in using a personal computer
  • Ability to analyze problems and develop appropriate course of action
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and work within policies and procedures

Qualifications:

Preferred –

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education
  • Florida driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation
  • Master’s degree
  • Experience meeting the deliverables of grant-funded projects while additionally managing the fiscal and reporting components of the grant
  • Experience working in public health
  • Experience working with community partners
  • Experience presenting/teaching STD/HIV/AIDs information to a variety of demographics
  • Trained in the REAL Essentials curriculum
  • Experience presenting to/teaching to school-aged children
