The Spearhead Group Inc is Hiring a Specialist Digital Accessibility Near Houston, TX

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Conduct regular audits and assessments of digital content including websites, applications, and other digital assets, as needed to identify gaps and barriers, and oversee the implementation of necessary improvement to ensure compliance with institutional policies, and federal and state laws.
  • Record, communicate, and monitor gaps and barriers identified during regular audits and assessments of digital content to respective content owners. Regularly follow up with content owners on remediation actions taken on the identified digital platform ensuring compliance with institutional policies and federal and state laws.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations to faculty and staff on digital accessibility requirements, remediation strategies and best practices during the procurement and implementation of digital products and services.
  • Provide guidance and support to internal teams on designing, developing, and testing accessible digital products and features.
  • Stay up to date with the latest digital accessibility standards, guidelines, and emerging technologies to continuously improve our digital accessibility practices.
  • Assist in the development of and conduct training sessions and workshops to raise awareness and enhance the understanding of digital accessibility principles and techniques among faculty and staff.
  • Assist in providing expertise and experience in digital accessible instructional materials and media by advising, consulting, and collaborating with faculty, and staff across campuses.
  • Assist in the review of vendor products utilizing VPATs or similar documentation to determine their compliance with accessibility standards, such as WCAG 2.1 or Section 508.
  • Serve as a liaison and communicate current issues and needs with campus technology partners to ensure campus-wide electronic accessibility.
  • Attend campus committee meetings relevant to position.
  • Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or other technology related field required.
  • 3 years experience using accessible/assistive devices, software, apps, on-line services, and web/mobile applications, assistive listening devices, and creating electronic text and alternative formats including optical character recognition to convert to various formats

  • MS Office Programs
  • Information Management Systems
  • Knowledge of American with Disabilities Act as amended 2008, Section 504 & 508 of the Rehabilitation Act
  • Proficiency in using accessibility evaluation tools and assistive technologies to assess digital assets for compliance.

Job Type: Contract

Salary: $37.00 - $48.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
