What you'll do

As the Process Engineering Manager for Utilimaster (A Shyft Group Brand) based at our facility in Bristol, IN, you will be responsible for measuring, monitoring, and directing manufacturing process initiatives that are aimed to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

Your primary focus will be managing the areas of Process Optimization, Continuous Improvement, Production Planning, Capacity Management, Quality Assurance and Control, Team Leadership and Development, and Cross-Functional Collaboration. You will also be regarded as the plant's project and Kaizen facilitator and will oversee project development and execution.

You will also be expected to utilize your technical expertise to spearhead results and guide cross-functional engineering teams to optimize our manufacturing processes.

You will also be accountable for:

  • Developing and implementing strategies to enhance manufacturing processes, reduce waste, improve operational efficiency, and minimize corrective actions
  • Recruiting, training, and developing a team of process engineers and technicians
  • Managing cross-functional engineering teams to identify and implement process improvements through Lean, Six Sigma, and other Lean methodologies.
  • Ensuring the seamless integration of new engineering solutions into our manufacturing process
  • Conducting regular process audits to ensure compliance and to identify improvement areas
  • Managing the quality control process to ensure that our fleet vehicles meet or exceed standards
  • Striving to optimize work, material, and information flows and processes
  • Eliminating non-value-added activities and weak process designs
  • Improving customer satisfaction through implementing sustainable processes
  • Partnering with production planning to ensure the optimal utilization of resources
  • Collaborating with capacity planning to meet production targets
  • Designing common work standards, systems, and other elements of superior manufacturing practices
  • Examining production data and performance metrics to identify bottlenecks
  • Managing quality management systems, including inspection protocols and testing procedures
  • Overseeing product launches and ensuring optimal manufacturing via product fixtures and tooling
  • Providing mentorship, coaching, and performance feedback
  • Fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement
  • Ensuring the seamless integration of new engineering solutions into our manufacturing process
  • Working closely with maintenance and facilities teams to ensure equipment reliability and availability
  • Making sure the Bristol plant is compliant with all industry regulations, standards, and safety protocols
  • Maintaining a safe and environmentally responsible manufacturing environment

What you need to be successful

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Lean, Continuous Improvement, or related discipline
  • 5 years of experience with leading Lean/Six Sigma transformations or equivalent combination of education and manufacturing process engineering experience
  • Advanced training in Lean Manufacturing, 5S, SMED, Standardized Work, Job Instruction, and other continuous improvement methodologies (Preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • A track record of handling multiple projects and meeting deadlines
  • A reputation for being able to energize others and build buy-in with multiple stakeholders
  • Versatile, flexible, and the willingness to work within constantly changing priorities
  • Willing and able to travel approximately 15%
  • Project management skills
