Job Summary:

The Caseworker shall provide a variety of services to individuals in need, including food, personal hygiene items, clothing, furniture, housing and utility assistance, referrals to community resources, and seasonal programming. Shall assist with identifying and addressing the root causes of the client’s situation. The overall goal of the position is to help clients determine the best strategy to improve their current life circumstances and to utilize available resources to help them overcome their current obstacles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Represent The Salvation Army, the church and service programs in a professional and caring manner.
• Work as a team with Corps Officers to encourage clients to participate in the holistic program of The Salvation Army.
• Always maintain client confidentiality.
• Conduct interviews and screen individuals for assistance.
• Provide all forms of direct service to clients including, but not limited to intake/assessment, referrals, advocacy, material assistance such as food, clothing/furniture vouchers, and personal hygiene items, and financial assistance such as gift cards, housing assistance, and utility assistance based upon guidelines, available resources, and policies and procedures of The Salvation Army.
• Coordinate all aspects of feeding programs, including food pantry, Senior food boxes, and community meals/soup kitchen in accordance with established policies, including ordering food, packaging food for distribution, keeping inventory, ensuring that the appropriate paperwork is completed and maintained, and the submission of monthly statistics.
• Empower clients to resolve the crisis with which they are confronted.
• Refer clients seeking spiritual guidance to the Corps Officers.
• Maintain confidential and accurate client files with pertinent information, documents, releases, and a plan of action, as well as a record of services provided and case notes in the online Social Services databas
• Produce and submit statistical reports in a timely manner.
• In conjunction with the Corps Officers and Divisional Headquarters, develop programs to meet community needs.
• Network with community agencies and participate in collaborative networks to stay current on services available, explore potential partnerships, and to address issues that are relevant to the community.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, conferences, and other professional development opportunities for social services/technical skills improvement.
• Conduct presentations about The Salvation Army Social Services to the public at service clubs, religious groups, etc.
• Coordinate and implement seasonal projects: Dollar Energy, Bundle-Up, Thanksgiving Assistance, Christmas Assistance, Camp Allegheny, Adopt-A-Family, Sheetz Family Christmas, etc.
• Answer the telephone, take messages, and direct messages to the appropriate personnel as needed.
• Participate in and support the implementation of special activities and events for the Corps programs as requested.
• Process paperwork, track hours and assign duties to volunteers.
• The above duties and responsibilities are not all inclusive and may be modified to include other job-related duties at the discretion of the supervisor.

Education and Experience:

Associates or bachelor’s degree in social work or related discipline. (Preferred)

At least 2 years of experience in social work or related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to work on multiple projects and prioritize accordingly.
• Ability to interact and communicate effectively with team members, clients, and agencies verbally and in writing.
• Knowledge of community resources.
• Ability to function independently and adapt to various work locations and settings.
• Must be familiar with social work ethics.
• Must have excellent time management skills.
• Must work well in a team atmosphere.
• Bilingual Spanish/English, verbally and written, preferred to best serve the community.
• Must have a valid PA driver’s license.
• Respect of cultural differences, levels of education, physical functioning, and crisis situations in a non-judgmental manner.
• PA Child Abuse History Clearance, Request for Criminal Record, and FBI fingerprinting upon hire along with renewals every five years.
• PA Mandated and Permissive Reporting and The Salvation Army's KeepSAfe training required.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $11.25 per hour
