Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully utilize a variety of counseling techniques. Knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully interact and communicate with a variety of personalities. Knowledge of the various drugs on the market that may be consumed by the residents; being aware and knowledgeable of the various names that the drugs are referred to; skills and abilities to recognize the effects that these drugs have on individuals that consume them. Knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully interact with men in the program. Knowledge, skills, and abilities in utilizing a variety of computer programs and data entry. Knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully multi-task, handling a variety of activities occurring at the same time. Knowledge of urinalysis products, tests, and applications. Knowledge of Breathalyzer machines and their applications. Ability to prepare and maintain client records in an accurate, complete, and timely manner. Ability to enforce policies and procedures in a tactful and courteous manner. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and four to five years of experience working in the counseling field, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Licenses and Certifications Certified Addiction Counselor (Certificate), preferred but not required. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Ability to use sound judgment and discretion in a variety of client related issues. Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to perform mathematical calculations. Ability to keypunch information into a computer and operate other general office equipment including but not limited to telephone, facsimile, adding machine, typewriter and other equipment. Ability to sort and file documents alphabetically and numerically. Duties are usually performed seated.Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited physical effort required associated with sitting, walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, typing, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-15% of work time. Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
