The Salvation Army USA Central Territory is Hiring a Mobile Outreach Driver (PT) Near Chicago, IL

Mobile Outreach Driver provides consistent stability and safety to the program through direct service to the clients. This individual works on multiple shifts and is responsible for the overall transportation of clients seeking shelter services. This service includes professional interactions, distribution of basic supplies, communicating with service providers and the community and offering support to the Mobile Outreach Workers.

POSITION TITLE: Mobile Outreach Driver

LOCATION/DEPT: North & Central Illinois Division / Mobile Outreach - Homeless Services

REPORTS TO: Mobile Outreach Supervisor

FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt

STATUS TYPE: Part-Time

DEPARTMENT MISSION

To support the full mission of The Salvation Army by providing compassionate, professional service to individuals and families experiencing homelessness and seeking shelter services and other resources in a team-focused manner.

OUTCOMES

This position is responsible for driving the mobile unit and/or the 12 passenger van accompanying the unit to various locations. This position will assist with feeding clients and engaging clients to seek services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  1. Ensure the vehicle is driven in a safe manner to transport clients seeking shelter services.
  2. Adhere to policies and procedures of the program with documentation and statistics kept and entered in a timely manner.
  3. Clean and Maintain vehicles.
  4. Maintain accurate mileage and maintenance logs for vehicle.
  5. Assists with set up and clean up of the Mobile Outreach Unit as part of the Mobile Outreach Team.
  6. All other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Valid Driver's license/MVR clearance.
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Previous professional driving work preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Chicago area.

COMPETENCIES

  • Pass The Salvation Army's Driver Qualification and MVR application.
  • Must be able to work as a team member and work well with the public.
  • Must be able to work at a fairly fast pace.
  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self starter.
  • An attention to detail.
  • A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities.
  • Supportive of the mission of The Salvation Army.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is required to do light to heavy physical work. Must be able to walk up two flights of stairs and lift up to 100lbs.
  • In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to operate a vehicle.
  • The work environment for this position includes an office and outside environment with a low to high noise level.
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather elements including severe conditions.
  • Must be able to work with clients that have poor social skills, suffer from mental illness, and have substance abuse problems.
