The Salvation Army USA Central Territory is Hiring a Cook Near Austin, MN

Position Summary

The Salvation Army Northern Division - Austin The Cook will cook for 80-100 people Monday-Thursday night. Cook for special events (i.e. volunteer dinners, ad board meetings, etc.) Prepare meals for clients, ensuring the food is cooked, stored and maintained in accordance with MN Department of Health. This is a regular part-time position with a work week expectation of 25 hours per week.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent education. Experience working in food service preparation, kitchen equipment and proper sanitation practices. Food Service certification or ability to pass certification within 90 days of employment. Good interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work independently and/or in a team setting. Possess a positive attitude, works well with others, be trustworthy, especially in confidential matters and be well organized and efficient. Ability to lift heavy items. Must be able to pass The Salvation Army's background checks, clerical screenings, and meet the MVR drivers' qualification. It must be understood by the incumbent that the provisions of Safe From Harm will apply upon commencement of employment and also understood that the required Safe From Harm training be satisfactorily completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, clients and visitors; respect of others' property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors and subordinates. Support the Mission of The Salvation Army by treating every donor, contact and colleague with respect and dignity, and without discrimination of any kind.
  • Cook for our Community Meal and for special events
  • Assists with serving meals and dining room operations.
  • Maintain the kitchen and food preparation area to meet the highest standard of cleanliness and in accordance with Department of Health requirements.
  • Keep the kitchen in good order.
  • Provide a menu and purchase food that is needed for meals.
  • Plan and prepare facility meals in accordance with menus.
  • Maintain an on-going inventory of food items monitoring usage. Make recommendation as to when and how much needs to be ordered. Establish and enforce an effective tracking system to recognize and prevent product loss.
  • Follow all safety rules and report safety hazards.
  • Carries out routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment.
  • Understands and supports the Safe Serve guidelines of proper preparation and storage of food products and food handling equipment.
  • Assists with other programs at the discretion of the Corps Officer.
  • All other duties as assigned.
