The Salvation Army Eastern Territory is Hiring a Coordinator of Community Engagement and Expansion (DHQ/GNY) Near New York, NY

Overview

The Coordinator of Community Engagement and Expansion is responsible for placement and supervision of interns throughout the Greater New York Division, management of Territorial Headquarters (THQ) grants, White House correspondence, as well as other tasks related to expansion of services within the community we serve. The Coordinator of Community Engagement and Expansion is responsible for setting and maintaining a high level of professional services. The Coordinator of Community Engagement and Expansion serves as a liaison between local colleges and universities (coordinators and students), THQ, White House, Corps Community Centers’ Corps Officers and staff, Social Services Administration, and program sites, as well as the public. The Coordinator of Community Engagement and Expansion will create a supportive, high-quality practice through procedure development/monitoring and support of these departments and programs. Must use discretion and independent judgment in exercising duties.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain relationships with local colleges and universities to establish and enhance The Salvation Army’s internship program
  • Develop and update intern job descriptions for Corps, Social Services program placements, and other Divisional Headquarters (DHQ) departments
  • Provide intern job description to local colleges and universities for consideration
  • Collect student resumes and screen/communicate with potential interns to discuss available opportunities
  • Serve as a liaison between Corps, Social Services programs, and other DHQ departments to onboard new interns
  • Communicate with Social Services Administration/Corps and IT Department to ensure interns are provided with appropriate equipment to perform their daily responsibilities
  • Ensure that internship participants receive the best training and experience possible
  • Work with Program Directors, Corps Officers, and Staff to assess the need for interns and to properly place internships
  • Identify internship requirements for students and field instructors, as well as develop weekly supervision sessions to monitor assignments and record progress
  • Oversee compliance of interns and field instruction requirements throughout the internship period
  • Review weekly student assignments and ensure compliance with student’s learning contract
  • Provide supervision to interns as needed
  • Provide updates to college/university intern coordinators regarding intern placement, assigned tasks, and their progress
  • Establish and maintain interagency working relationships with other organizations – public sector, private sector, and faith-based
  • Contribute to education and consciousness-raising about The Salvation Army’s mission and mission alignment among all constituencies
  • Maintain ongoing communication with THQ, Corps Officers, and staff to ensure utilization of available grants
  • Attend THQ grant related workshops and webinars and communicate grant requirements to participating Corps/SS programs
  • Follow up with Corps/SS Program to provide updates on THQ grant related deadlines and remaining budgets
  • Oversee all aspects of THQ grant expenditures and compliance and submit required reports to THQ
  • Conduct Opioid Overdose Prevention Development Training to The Salvation Army’s officers, employees, community partners, and individuals at risk
  • Distribute monthly reports related to the Opioid Overdose Prevention Program
  • Maintain monthly communication with Opioid Overdose Prevention Clinical Director
  • Research available grant and Requests for Proposal (RFP) opportunities through City, State, and Federal government agencies
  • Acts as a liaison between Social Services Administration, Finance, and Development Departments to assist in creating grant and RFP opportunities to expand SSGNY’s programs
  • Respond to White House Letters by communicating with the client and appropriate Corps to facilitate public assistance
  • Submit White House Letter reports to Executive Assistant to the Divisional Commander
  • Represent The Salvation Army at outside meetings when requested
  • Other duties as assigned by Social Services of Greater New York

Qualifications

  • MSW with Seminar in Field Instruction Certification (SIFI) or willing to obtain SIFI Certification at the start of employment
  • 5 years of experience in human services, social services, or equivalent relevant experience working with disadvantaged communities
  • Ability to grow existing programs through annual goal setting and community outreach
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other professionals
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of populations served
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills, as well as attention to detail
  • Knowledge of computer skills in Microsoft, Excel, and fiscal software
