The Regents of the University of California on behalf of their Los Angeles Campus is Hiring a Remote Chief Privacy Officer


Department Summary
The UCLA Compliance Office is part of the Office of the Chancellor and provides guidance and oversight of the development, implementation, and administration of a compliance program that is consistent with UC policies, procedures, ethical principles, and core values.
Position Summary

Under the direction of the Chief Compliance and Audit Officer, the Chief Privacy Officer (CPO) works with key campus and University offices to identify and address public policy, legislative, and regulatory changes, and emerging issues, as well as technological and social issues that pertain to privacy. The CPO also works with UCLA and UC System officials to develop and implement University privacy policies.

Salary & Compensation
*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications
  • Ability to communicate, negotiate, facilitate, and consult with faculty, researches, campus executives and staff, including highly technical staff. (Required)
  • Skill in collaborative exchange of ideas and information to jointly reach decisions or solutions. Skilled in policy development and interpretation. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize a project, assessing project risks and assumptions and clearly communicating those to the project team and stakeholders. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to direct major projects requiring resources from - and across - many units by prioritizing tasks and estimating time, effort, resources and staff required for projects. (Required)
  • Detailed knowledge of public policy, legislation, technology and societal trends relating to information technology and privacy that may affect or influence the University or a campus. (Required)
  • Knowledge of the campus and University culture, hierarchy and organizational structure. Knowledge of the academic environment and research workflows. (Preferred)
  • Ability to scan a rapidly evolving landscape, identify issues that may affect the University, and synthesize implications of emerging patterns and trends. (Required)
  • Ability to work effectively and flexibly in an uncertain, ambiguous and constantly changing environment. (Required)
  • Ability to prepare documents that are clearly written, well-organized, well- structured, accurate, complete and professional in appearance, and ability to develop and provide professional, accurate and well-organized oral presentations. (Required)
  • Knowledge of and experience with advising on compliance with GDPR and local data protection laws, monitoring adherence to General Data Protection Regulation. Acts as the point of contact with supervisory authorities and data subjects. (Required)
  • Knowledge and experience with advising on compliance with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (Required)
  • Knowledge of and experience with advising on compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. (Required)
  • Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training (Required)
  • AIGP, CIPP, CIPM, CIPT or like certification (Required)
