The RealReal’s Accounting team is looking to hire an Indirect Tax Lead that will be an integral part of our growing team. The Indirect Tax Lead will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with indirect tax regulations and optimizing The RealReal's indirect tax position. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of indirect taxes, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

What You Get To Do Every Day

• Reconcile system tax data to Avalara tax data to ensure accurate use in filings.
• Manage and oversee the preparation, filing, and payment of indirect taxes, including but not limited to sales tax, VAT, and GST.
• Ensure timely and accurate submission of indirect tax returns in multiple jurisdictions.
• Conduct regular reviews of business operations to identify opportunities for indirect tax savings and efficiencies.
• Monitor changes in indirect tax laws and regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.
• Assess and mitigate indirect tax risks through effective planning and documentation.
• Collaborate with internal teams such as Finance, Legal, and Operations to understand business transactions and ensure proper treatment of indirect taxes.
• Provide indirect tax guidance to support various business initiatives and projects.
• Manage and support external audits related to indirect taxes.
• Prepare and organize documentation to respond to tax authorities' inquiries.

What You Bring To The Role

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in indirect tax compliance and planning, preferably in a retail or e-commerce environment.
• Strong understanding of US and international indirect tax laws and regulations.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional and external teams.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Requirements:

• Previous experience working with Avalara or another 3rd party tax solution
• Experience coordinating with and overseeing consultants to prepare and remit tax filings timely and accurately
• Experience overseeing and providing support for external audits with tax authority inquiries
• Experience reconciling large data sets and reviewing for accuracy

The expected salary range for this role is $117,007.00 - $140,760.00. To determine starting pay we carefully consider a variety of factors, including primary work location and an evaluation of a candidate’s skills, experience, market demands, and internal parity. Additionally, salary is just one component of TRR’s total rewards package. Depending on role, employees may also be eligible for a bonus program, incentive pay and benefits.
