Education/Training Coordinators are responsible for planning, developing, and implementing in-service education programs for their departments. Employees in this position conduct training needs assessments to identify appropriate training topics, purchase and develop educational materials, facilitate and administer training sessions to internal/external participants, and complete reports to document training effectiveness. Depending on the assigned department, Education/Training Coordinators may work in either an office setting or within the Jefferson County Jail. Individuals in this position often use a variety of standard office equipment (e.g., computer, phone, copier, etc.) and have no supervisory responsibilities.
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:
  • Conducts training needs assessments by researching relevant rules, regulations, laws, and/or permit requirements, identifying issues in the workplace/community, assessing trainees’ knowledge of certain topics, and working with other groups/agencies/departments to develop comprehensive training programs for internal and external participants.
  • Coordinates special training events (e.g., luncheons, graduation, awards ceremony etc.) including securing the location, staffing, catering/arrangement of refreshments and other services; and troubleshooting and conducting debriefing sessions after the event to solicit input on improving future events.
  • Coordinates the administration of education training programs by ensuring sites/rooms for training are available and reserved, setting up equipment/materials, conducting and facilitating training sessions (e.g., workshops, group presentations, one-on-one training, etc.) and/or selecting outside individuals to present programs.
  • Develops content and materials related to education/training programs by determining the type of content to produce, submitting purchase requests for externally developed content, and creating a variety of training and educational materials in order to distribute throughout the community and/or workplace.
  • Maintains training documentation and databases, monitors effectiveness of training programs, and writes reports to ensure adherence to jurisdiction, local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Makes travel accommodations and coordinates the travel imbursement process.
  • Supports the jurisdiction’s training initiative by working with management to provide strategic direction regarding training, developing/updating policies and procedures which support training, establishing training schedules, and keeping stakeholders informed of the progress of training initiatives.
  • Identifies external training opportunities/resources by researching external trainers/consultants, developing contracts for services, and coordinating enrollment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Driver's license.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Industrial Psychology, Education, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience presenting trainings, events, and/or programs for various audiences.
  • Experience using a computer database (e.g., Excel, Access) for tracking activities and preparing reports.
  • Experience identifying training needs, designing materials, and evaluating classes/materials.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred Qualifications are examples of experience and education considered to be highly desirable by hiring agencies. The preferred qualifications may be used by the hiring agency to identify applicants to invite to participate in subsequent selection processes.
  • Master's degree in Human Resources, Public Administration, Communications, Business Administration/Management, or Organizational Management.
  • Experience working in Human Resources (e.g., HR generalist, recruiting, compensation/benefits, employee relations) and interpreting and explaining Human Resources policies and procedures to staff.

  • Knowledge of instructional design (e.g., analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation (ADDIE)).

  • Knowledge of the processes involved in designing training programs to meet instructional goals, in what format to present material to audience, and how to develop course materials to meet those needs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is conducted almost exclusively indoors in an office setting. Work involves use of standard office equipment, such as computer, phone, copier, etc.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Job is primarily sedentary involving sitting for long periods of time, but may involve occasional walking or standing for brief periods. Job may involve occasional light lifting of items or objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
