Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Division Director in area of responsibility and clinical leadership of a registered nurse, prepares the surgical suite and patient for surgery and assists the team during the procedure.
Minimal Acceptable Job Qualifications:
Education/Licensure/Registration/Certification/Experience:
∙ Minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent (GED)
∙ Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program or completion of a surgical technology program provided by the US Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps or Coast Guard, or commissioned corps of the US Public Health Service. Documentation of actively practicing surgical technology in a health care facility prior to July 1, 2009 will be accepted in lieu of these program requirements.
∙ If program graduation occurred on or after July 1, 2009, certification (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology is required within 12 months from graduation date. Documentation of actively practicing surgical technology in a healthcare facility prior to July 1, 2009 will be accepted in lieu of certification requirements. Certification is not required to be maintained after initial attainment.
∙ If the CST certification requirement applies, individuals must attempt a certification exam within 3 months of date in position and will have up to six months after hire to successfully pass certification exam or must have achieved certification within 12 months of graduation.
∙ 15 continuing education hours related to the practice of surgical technology must be maintained annually to continue employment. This is tracked within the department by management from documentation provided by the Surg tech associate.
∙ CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation) is required within three (3) months of hire and must be maintained current.
