Facilities Management Division:
The Principal Parks/Facilities Maintenance Worker will be part of the Facilities Management Division. This Division of 118 staff provides for the care and maintenance of the Department’s physical assets including facilities, pavement, fleet, and major building systems. With a budget over $13 million dollars, the division is responsible for facility condition assessments, major and minor maintenance programs, and serves as the primary support to the Department’s Capital Improvement Projects (CIP). The division strives to achieve a balance between the upkeep of aging facilities and new construction by integrating a number of CIP and major maintenance projects into the daily work program each year. 
 
Our Principal Parks/Facilities Maintenance Worker will be responsible for performing general groundskeeping and routine building maintenance at Commission parks, golf courses, recreation centers, and other sites. This role is responsible for operating a variety of equipment, including: dump trucks, tractors with attachments, backhoes, bucket trucks, and riding mowers. Work involves all types of equipment, difficult specialized assignments, and directing and training other workers in maintenance procedures and practices.

  1. Operates trucks, truck and trailer combinations, front-end loader, backhoe, dump trucks with plows, bucket trucks, trash trucks, and tank trucks. May operate complex equipment and vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating requiring a CDL. Patches and resurfaces asphalt roads and trails, removes snow, grades fields and other park areas, and hauls materials and equipment. Performs routine safety inspection and maintenance of vehicles and equipment. Performs routine safety inspection and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  2. Considerable skill in operation of: asphalt roller, backhoe; mini excavator, bobcat; dump truck; front-end loader; tree spade; tractor; tractor-trailer truck. 
  3. Performs routine maintenance and repairs to park buildings and structures, and specialized tasks such as constructing and installing various park amenities (for example, asphalt repairs split rail fencing, bio ponds, and routine maintenance work).
  4. Ability to: (1) direct and follow verbal and non-verbal instructions; (2) understand a system of procedures; (3) read and write routine reports and instructions; (4) lift to 100 pounds; (5) ability to work independently or in a crew.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Must possess a valid Class A CDL Commercial Driver’s License and qualify to drive Commission vehicles to locations within Montgomery County.
  • Proficient in operations of asphalt roller, backhoe, Skid loader, truck & trailer combination, etc.
  1. High school diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
  2. Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in groundskeeping, building maintenance or park maintenance.
  3. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total four (4) years. 
  4. Valid driver’s license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver’s license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee’s ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required of their position. 
  5. Pass Commission medical examination.
  6. Depending upon the area of assignment, some positions in this class require within 12 months of hire (a) Commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements; (b) obtainment of certifications including:

May be subject to medical, drug and alcohol testing.

Primarily works outside but may work inside on occasion or as assigned. May work weekends, evenings, and holidays. Exposed to weather, dirt, waste, odors, caustic chemicals, pesticides, wildlife, and potentially harmful insects (for example, bees, hornets, wasps, etc.).
