The Madison Group is Hiring a Laboratory Technician Near Fitchburg, WI

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Madison Group has an opening for an experienced Laboratory Technician to join our laboratory. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing tests, operating multiple tools, constructing custom test fixtures, maintaining accurate instrumentation, assisting with test procedure development, and keeping a safe and clean working environment. Experience in analytical testing for polymers (DSC, FTIR, TGA, etc.) is highly recommended.

This position is not remote and requires full-time presence in the facilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform a variety of routine and non-routine tests on polymeric materials, including but not limited to Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), mechanical testing, chemical compatibility studies, and aging studies as directed by the supervisor of the laboratory operations.
  • Under the direction of supervisor, operation of multiple tools necessary for preparation of test specimens and for the construction of custom testing fixtures. This includes typical hand tools, and basic cutting and machining tools (bandsaw, drill-press, IsoMet cutters, polishers, etc.)
  • Safe handling and use of lab chemicals.
  • Collaborate with project managers to meet client requirements and deadlines.
  • Interface directly with instrument vendors for troubleshooting and test method development, ensuring optimal performance of laboratory instruments.
  • Ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results by adhering to established procedures and quality standards for each type of test. Support the supervisor of the laboratory in developing and updating test procedures as needed.
  • Maintain, verify, and calibrate laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Oversee the general organization and cleanliness of the laboratory, to promote a safe environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a laboratory setting, with a focus on testing.
  • Preferred knowledge of plastics testing methods and techniques (e.g., Thermal Analysis, Mechanical Testing).
  • Experience with scientific instrumentation, and equipment maintenance, verification, and calibration.
  • Experience using hand tools as well as shop tools (saws, drills, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to complete assignments, meeting quality and time-oriented objectives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be authorized to legally work/reside in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequency of required physical force: Minimum
  • Lifting heavy items on occasion when projects require
  • Handling of gas cylinders, carts, manual forklift.
