Summary of Controller position

The Controller is responsible for managing the activities of the overall general accounting function. This position ensures the accurate compilation, analysis and reporting of accounting data and acts as liaison between the company, government, and independent auditors in providing required information and ensuring proper information is maintained. Responsibilities include preparing and analyzing financial reports and journal entries, maintaining and reconciling ledger accounts, and providing records of assets, liabilities, and other financial transitions. Position reports to Vice President, Finance and Administration

Essential duties and responsibilities;

· Responsible for month end and year end closing activities.

· Prepares monthly and annual financial statements including balance sheets, income statements and cash flow statements for a multi-entity enterprise, charitable foundations, and limited liability companies.

· Assign and supervise the work of the accounting staff to ensure application of GAAP.

· Oversee basic accounting procedures (A/R, A/P, time billing, payroll, G/L, and tax compliance (sales and use, income, property, etc.))

· Prepare and distribute monthly management reports for all business units.

· Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts including all banking and investment accounts.

· Manage annual financial and 401K audits by serving as company liaison with auditors.

· Assists with preparation of annual budget and forecasts. Monitors and reports significant budget differences to management.

· Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements including management of sales tax filings and remittances.

· Assist with tax compliance including preparation and filing of annual tax returns for certain affiliated organizations.

· Improves and implements financial controls in areas of responsibility.

· Maintains knowledge of trends, developments, and best practices in the accounting profession; applies this knowledge to recommend and implement process and policy changes.

Education and/or experience;

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting

· CPA preferred

· 7 years of experience

Knowledge and technical skills;

· Multi-entity Enterprise experience preferred

· Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.

· Ability to work and interact within cross-functional teams.

· Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects and deadlines.

· Advanced Excel experience

· Accounting ERP implementation preferred.

· Technology company experience preferred

· Tax exempt and non-profit experience a plus.
