The Indianapolis Public Library is Hiring a Library Security Assistant-LSC Front Desk (Part-time) Near Indianapolis, IN

Position Details

  • Title: Library Security Assistant-LSC Front Desk
  • Location : Library Service Center
  • Hours : Part-Time (20 hours/ week)
  • Schedule: Monday- Friday 2:00pm-6:00pm
  • Starting Hourly Rate : $18.00
  • FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary:

The Library Security Assistant at the front desk of the Library Services Center for IndyPL is to perform both customer service and security responsibilities. Create positive experiences for library staff and visitors by welcoming and screening all persons coming into the Library Services Center, as well as a variety of other clerical duties. Checking entire building and secure points of entry, exits and interior areas at closing. Closing and locking gates. Ensure visitors and staff compliance with general safety/security rules and regulations and adherence to the Behavioral Policy set forth by IndyPL. This position functions as part of a department or branch public services team to provide high quality and equitable internal and external customer service. When not monitoring incoming visitors, this position will also be responsible for answering incoming calls, posting scheduled meetings, and entering work orders.

A successful candidate will…

  • Have four years of high school or equivalency
  • Post-secondary education preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Previous front desk/receptionist experience preferred
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • One year of experience working with security and safety issues including experience providing customer service and solving service problems.
  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures, including skills in operating a computer, workplace technology including email, internet and automated software, while working with attention to detail.

What does the job look like?

  • Ensuring all visitors sign in upon entering the building
  • Skill in securing buildings with several points of entry
  • Assist with book donations.
  • Ensure the reception area is kept tidy and presentable, with all necessary stationary and brochures.
  • Work in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds, age groups, and abilities.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity in working with patrons, staff members and the community. .
  • Inspect and patrol premises at the end of the day, securing the building and gates.
  • Provide high quality and equitable customer service, developing professional relationships with patrons and the community.
  • Enforce the library’s Behavior Policy and determine when behavior in the library is inappropriate with Manager
