HJF is seeking a Systems Administrator I The System Administrator I is part of the IT Systems Team within the Diagnostics and Countermeasures Branch (DCB), within the Center for Infectious Disease Research (CIDR), at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR). The incumbent will primarily support the Master Control Analyst in the management and customization of the Master Control quality management software, which includes defining user requirements through to solution design, development, testing, implementation, administration, and support. Additionally, the incumbent will provide support for other applications within the DCB application portfolio in support of work being conducted by DCB scientists, laboratory groups, and Leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates the Master Control application requirements to support DCB operations and recommends solutions for Master Control systems design and implementation efforts.
  • Collaborates in coordination with the Master Control Analyst IT Systems Team Lead, and steering committee in the planning, design, development, and deployment of new Master Control workflows and enhancements as well as monitors existing functionality.
  • Creates and/or maintains necessary formal system documentation including User Requirement Specifications, Detailed Design Specifications, Configuration Test Plans and Summary Reports, etc.
  • Collaborates with the Master Control Analyst and DCB IT Systems Team Lead to create standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and training materials to support the use of the Master Control software.
  • Provides training to DCB staff on new and existing functionality within Master Control.
  • Provides support and technical assistance for end-users specific to Master Control and other assigned applications.
  • Responds to user inquiries concerning assigned applications and helps troubleshoot system and operator problems; investigates and resolves system issues, assists in correcting user errors.
  • Coordinates and performs in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new processes. Develops, standardizes, and maintains new or improved processes based on findings and analysis.
  • Perform duties listed above for other applications as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with Master Control software or similar application is a plus. Experience providing training to staff, creating SOPs, and documentation management.
  • Experience using or supporting laboratory related applications. Background working in regulated environments and/or clinical laboratories.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to manage project timelines and deliverables on time.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to work with a wide variety of personnel of varied technical knowledge.
  • Experience using and/or customizing an electronic document control software and or quality management software.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team to meet organizational goals.
  • Advanced skills with system device management and monitoring.

Physical Capabilities 

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.
  • The individual must be able to stand/sit for extended periods at a computer terminal performing repetitive administrative processes travel to and move within the Program's research sites.

Qualifications

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting. 

Education and Experience

  • Vocational or technical training or Associate's degree required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience required.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Vendor training/certification preferred (e.g., MCSE) but not required.
