Position Overview

We are currently seeking a skilled Oyster Shucker to join our team. This role is essential in providing our guests with the finest oyster experience. The ideal candidate will have a passion for seafood, particularly oysters, and a dedication to delivering an exceptional dining experience.

Key Responsibilities

Oyster Shucking:

    • Efficiently and safely shuck oysters, ensuring each one is cleanly opened and presented beautifully.
    • Maintain the integrity and quality of the oysters during the shucking process.

Quality Control:

    • Inspect oysters for freshness, quality, and safety.
    • Discard any oysters that do not meet our high standards.

Presentation and Preparation:

    • Prepare and garnish oyster plates for service.
    • Assist in the creation of oyster platters and special seafood presentations.

Hygiene and Safety:

    • Ensure cleanliness and organization in the shucking and preparation areas.
    • Adhere to all health and safety guidelines, including proper food handling and storage practices.

Team Collaboration:

    • Work closely with kitchen staff and servers to ensure timely and accurate service.
    • Communicate effectively with team members to maintain smooth operations.

Inventory Management:

    • Assist in managing oyster and seafood inventory, including receiving and storing deliveries.

Successful Candidates Will Have:

  • Proven experience as an Oyster Shucker, or in a similar role in a casual fine dining restaurant or culinary setting
  • Knowledge of different oyster varieties and their flavor profiles
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and dexterity
  • Strong work ethic and ability to successfully work within a team environment
  • Instinct and the ability to anticipate needs, considerations, and potential challenges
  • The ability to listen intently, process information and to provide clear and accurate results
  • A sense of humor and the ability to maintain a consistent demeanor with staff
  • Current Food Handling Certification as locally required
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs and stand without support for long periods of time
