Summary:

This position is responsible for inspecting measuring devices for accuracy, maintaining records of these inspections, and organizing them for audit purposes. This includes the procurement of certified measuring devices and managing the re-verification schedules for these devices. The individual in this role also provides support in the areas of document control and storage for laboratory records.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Calibration Maintenance: Responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of calibration equipment throughout the lab.
  • Thermometer Certification: Tasked with maintaining certified thermometers and conducting quarterly and annual verifications for temperature monitoring devices including ovens, hot blocks, freezers, refrigerators, NEvaps, incubators, etc.
  • Weight Set Management: Accountable for providing and managing certified weight sets within the lab, including replenishment and re-verification as necessary.
  • Equipment Management: Handles the mailing of devices such as thermometers, flukes, and weight sets, ensuring their return and managing the process efficiently.
  • Record Keeping and Inspection: Responsible for inspecting measuring devices for accuracy, maintaining records of these inspections, and organizing them for audit purposes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Conducts all activities in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Demonstrates and supports GEL’s core values.
  • Follows written and verbal instructions.

Typical Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor of Science, preferably in a science discipline.

Other Knowledge Requirements:

  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills, including but not limited to, WORD, EXCEL and other standard operating programs/systems
  • Attention to detail and teamwork are key
  • Fundamental principles, practices and techniques of chemistry are a plus

Physical Requirements and Working Environment:

The physical demands outlined are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:

  • Mobility to work in a lab and office setting
  • Use of standard office and lab equipment and stamina to sit or stand for extended periods of time

Work is performed in a laboratory setting which is subject to chemicals, and potential fumes, gasses, noxious odors and related items typical for this environment. Safety equipment is provided, and use is mandatory.
