Finance Coordinator Job Description

The Equi Institute is a nonprofit organization based in Portland, Oregon. Our mission is To enrich the health of the Trans, Queer, Gender Diverse and Intersex communities through trauma-informed care, culturally affirming services and social justice advocacy.

Equi’s Community Health Program is designed to connect unhoused or insecurely housed LGBTQAI2S folks - including the intersections of BIPOC, disability, elders and people who use drugs - with traditional health workers to facilitate better connection with health care, peer support, wraparound services, harm reduction, basic first aid, wound care, and COVID-19 prevention. Our goal is to bring social services, and mental and physical health care to the people who need it most.

There is a strong social justice component to all positions within The Equi Institute, requiring critical thinking through the lens of anti-racism and intersections with poverty. Knowing the core principles of anti-racism and grounding those principles in everyday work are required job skills and core values.

Salary

  • $26-$31/hr

  • 20-30 hrs/week

This position will report to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilize extensive experience (3 years) with QuickBooks and similar platforms to manage company files effectively, ensuring a seamless transition in case of handover.
  • Maintain financial records for a nonprofit organization, demonstrating 2 years of expertise in bookkeeping and the ability to adjust accounts in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Develop and monitor intricate budgets to support the organization's financial objectives and provide regular updates on financial performance.
  • Execute standard finance coordinator duties, including but not limited to accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and Google's apps to facilitate efficient data management and collaboration.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide valuable insights for decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal policies, conducting periodic audits as necessary.
  • Participate in the preparation of financial statements, forecasts, and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain confidentiality and accuracy in financial data handling while promoting transparency within the organization.
  • Stay informed about industry best practices, regulatory changes, and emerging trends in finance to enhance the efficiency of financial processes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • 3 years of experience with QuickBooks and similar financial software.
  • 2 years of experience managing finances for nonprofit organizations.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and its application in nonprofit accounting.
  • Proven experience in budget development, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google's suite of apps.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy and reliability.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

WORK SCHEDULE & LOCATION

The work in this position is performed both remotely and in-person. You will be provided with a computer for your work. It is the employee’s responsibility to maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the recommendations by the CDC.
