Overview: The Door is an unparalleled model for youth development, offering a comprehensive range of integrated services within a single site for nearly 11,000 New York City youth each year. Our mission is to empower young adults to reach their full potential by providing comprehensive youth development services in a diverse and caring environment. At The Door, youth can access health care and education, mental health counseling and crisis assistance, legal assistance, college preparation services, career development, housing supports, arts, sports and recreational activities, and nutritious meals – all for free and under one roof. By providing participants with our suite of integrated services, we seek to provide any motivated young person with the tools, resources, and opportunities needed to successfully transition to adulthood.
The goal of The Door’s Career and Education Services Department is to support young people in completing secondary education and successfully transitioning into post-secondary education and employment. Programs within The Door’s Career and Education Services Department (CareerED) are designed to help both in-school and out-of-school youth to set and attain their educational and career goals. CareerED services allow a young person to craft a personalized life plan defining the steps he/she will take to achieve those goals while developing the necessary skills for future life success and independence. The Door’s Bronx Youth Center (BYC) aims to prepare out-of-school and out-of-work young people, with a special focus on system-involved youth, for meaningful placements in college and/or employment through the provision of comprehensive education and career services, which develop potential for economic self-sufficiency.
The Assistant Director for System-Involved Youth is responsible for overall management and outcomes achievement for young people who are receiving social work support on all DYCD and privately funded programs. Supervise Clinical Supervisors and Social Work interns, establish and maintain a tracking system for outcomes to ensure that data relating to social work supports, hours met, type of service (one on one, group sessions, recreational events, in-person counseling, virtual session etc.) are all accurately reflected in reporting to stakeholders. To serve as the decision maker regarding higher level supports for young people based on assessment of the situation.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide supervision, training, and support to the Clinical Supervisors and Social Work Interns.
  • Oversee program services and outcomes achievement for Social Work supports to include all aspects of data tracking.
  • Work with Career and Education Services Department leadership team to track service delivery and achievement of program goals and outcomes and provide higher level Social Work support needed across any of the contracts within the Career & Education department.
  • Work with the Executive Director, Managing Director Bronx Youth Center and Managing Director of Career and Education Services, to leverage our existing career and education services and partnerships for young adults involved in the foster care and/or juvenile justice systems or who are homeless as well as any young person receiving Career and Education services.
  • Work closely with The Door Career and Education Services management team to create programmatic and data tracking mechanisms for serving participants receiving social work supports across sites.
  • Work with external evaluators on the program evaluation and tracking of mental health initiatives relative to programming and the young people we serve.
  • Prepare reports and presentations on social work outcomes and progress for grant reports and external audiences.
  • Manage partnerships with key institutions involved in the outcomes of young people receiving social work supports to improve education and career outcomes for youth and to impact real system change.
  • Attend all relevant meetings, trainings, workshops and outside events.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary staff in the development and facilitation of agency-wide programming and events.
  • Handle any appropriate responsibilities and functions as assigned by Managing Director.
Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in social work, required, Supervision in Field Instruction certification, LCSW required.
  • Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience in youth development, workforce development, or education fields including extensive experience managing government and performance-based contracts.
  • Demonstrated success in leading a team to meet and exceed their goals through the delivery of high-quality services.
  • Knowledgeable of and ability to apply positive youth development principles to working with young people
  • Ability to translate an organization or department’s vision into an operating service and goal plan, effectively communicate that plan and timeline to staff, and establish benchmarks and goals for accountability.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to manage up, down, and across all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with variety of stakeholders including program participants, staff, funders and program partners.
  • Passion for data management and outcomes with an ability to motivate and help staff use data to track and improve performance outcomes and quality of service delivery.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and familiarity with online databases
  • Excellent analytical thinking, judgment, and decision-making skills.
  • Enthusiasm, creativity, and initiative.
  • Capacity to thrive under pressure while working on multiple tasks and projects.
  • Ability to participate as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Work Schedule: Full-timeMonday through Friday, 35 hours per week, occasional evening and weekend hours as needed
